Editorial review from Citysearch 2/22/2013

I have had nothing but good experiences with Jim Terry Music. From the moment we entered the store, Mr. Terry greeted us and assisted us with lessons for our daughter and helped us to buy a very reasonably priced guitar. The 30 minute lessons are a pleasure to listen to. Even though my daughter is still fairly new at playing, Jim plays along with her simple melody and it makes my daughter feel like she is part of something amazing. It also makes listening to the lesson a pleasure. He truly is a patient teacher who respects his students and takes them where they are. His other employees are equally talented and curtious. It is a pleasure to hear my daughter now as his lessons have inspired her to practice daily. Mr. Terry is the only teacher I would want for my daughter! more

If there was lower than one star, i would give it. This store is run and manned by arrogant jerks. Went to get lessons for my kids and he practically threw us out the door. After we persisted, he signed us up for two lessons and wouldn't renew for more saying it was a waste of his time. What a real jerk. Now i know why he is the cheapest in town, you get what you pay for. more

Are you kidding me? 11/19/2011

@incomprehensible - If Jim's is about guitars only, then why isn't the name of the business ""Jim Terry Guitars""? Jim himself named it ""Jim Terry Music"" so why is it incomprehensible that someone might venture in there for ""music"" items? Give me a break and stop sticking up for the guy. Also, to PerpetualPatriot - it's illegal in the wonderful state of Florida to record a telephone conversation without the other party's consent. You may want to edit out that part of your review. more

Inspirational Mentor, Great Instructor 5/4/2010

I got a kick out of the *** review. There's three sides to every story and it sounds like quite a bit is left out of that tale. Those of us who enjoy Jim's gift as a musician and thoughtful instructor are happy guys like that will not be back. JTM is for guitar players who want to advance. Its perfect for kids who want to learn and adults who want to enjoy the instrument. Guitars. Go to Tinkerbell's if you want a ""bellset"" or other silly paraphernalia. Go to Jim to learn GUITAR. Pros: Dedicated to students, highly skilled player and teacher Cons: If you don't want guitar lessons, don't go there. more

Brand New Customer told to ""F*** Off"" 2/13/2010

My girlfriend, whom has four wonderful children which are all luckily musically inclined, decided that she would stop into Jim Terry's Music Store off Curlew Rd. She was looking for a very simple pair of products; a bell set and a music book. Long story short, this encounter ended with the employee, if not Jim himself, who unimaginably told her to ""F*** off"" which prompted her to leave this store. After receiving a call from her while I'm at work, clarifying the details of the situation, I decided I would like to call this store and find out what happened. I requested to speak with a Manager, conviently there isn't one, and was then badgered by a bad attituded employee would refused to give my name and phone number for someone higher than himself to call me back. This only further leads me to believe this is Jim Terry cowardly hiding behind a telephone. While recording this conversation, I was then told, ""If you're dating her, then you've got a big f*cking problem."" I've worked in multiple hospitality environments throughout the Tampa Bay area, as of right now I serve the IT community of a notable private hotel chain that's garnished a great deal of media attention for its outstanding efforts to their guests, and in situation that I can think of should a guest or customer be told to ""F*** off."" From this point forward I will go out of my way to make sure anyone who visits this store knows of this situation, I've e-mailed the recording of my conversation with their employee to BayNews 9 and I have reported this to the Better Business Bureau. more
