For me, the standard for a good haircut is whether or not I can style my hair at home. When Jim cuts my hair, I can do just that--style it myself. Of course, it never looks as good as when he does it because I pretty much stink at styling my hair! But it looks good--and that's why I keep going back to Jim.
I've tried other talented hair stylists, but I remember one painful incident a couple of years ago. The hairdresser cut my hair into a lot of lengths, and it looked great when I walked out of the salon. When I tried to style it myself, however, my hair flopped in all sorts of directions. It looked like I had several cowlicks where none had existed before! I couldn't get my hair to lie flat where it was supposed to. I tried hot rolling it to get it to do right, but every morning was a fight. It took a year for the lengths to grow out.
That's when I went back to Jim, and I've been pleased ever since. I have NEVER HAD A BAD HAIRCUT FROM HIM. In fact, I receive numerous
compliments on my hair now, even when I haven't gone to a lot of trouble to fix it (which is often because I'm lazy).
I guess I could sum things up best by sharing what happened at the beach last summer. As we were leaving, a friend looked at my wet hair as I ran a comb through it and was letting it dry naturally. She said, "You know, the sign of a great hair cut is how it lies when it's wet. It just falls back into place." She asked who did my hair and I told her about Jim.
On the practical side, the service is timely, the price is a good value for the quality of cut, and my hair always looks better on the way out than it looked on the way in. And yes, I am a fan of Jim Ostrosky's!
