I still do a lot of shopping here, but this store has gotten worse over the last few years. Prices on non-sale items are high. Jewel has reacted to the competition basically by reducing staff. Checkout lines have lengthened, hours at the service counters, particularly meat and seafood have shortened.
It's really a matter of competition. The produce markets have come in with less corporate overhead and non-union employees and are able to sell items, particularly deli, for a lot less than Jewel.
They are still worth visiting, for sale items, house brand items and fresh meats on sale, but don't go during peak times and don't get carried away on items you can buy less expensively elsewhere.
I'm pretty critical of this store, because I don't have as much problems with checkout lines at their other stores, but the high regular prices exist throughout the chain.
