Built in 1887, this classic resort has experienced numerous changes in ownership over the years. Today, a renovation has restored its original grandeur and earned it a National Historic Landmark designation. It is located near the Atlantic Ocean and was once was a playground for the rich and famous--Vanderbilts and Rockefellers are among the wealthy who vacationed here.
The Details
Traditionally styled accommodations are done in shades of pink with dramatic dark furnishings. Period access include two-poster mahogany beds, armoires and interior shutters. Many also have fireplaces and/or Jacuzzi tubs. Guests return time and again to enjoy the luxurious ambiance, as well as ten miles of unspoiled and environmentally protected land. The property includes beaches, golf, biking trails and fishing. As well, you can take a historic tour, and croquet conjures up images of an earlier era. Children's programs are available.
