Located in Bath County, VA The Jefferson Pools are natural hot springs that, according to signage, past presidents loved to soak in because they believed they had healing qualities. You can indulge in a soak yourself (not that expensive, but can't remember exact price) -- the women and men are kept seperate and they have certain times where families can soak together. Bathing suits are optional and we were told that some do prefer to soak that way -- hence the seperate bath houses. Family soak time is suit required.
The springs are housed in a wooden bath house, protected from the elements. It's like an indoor pool, with a (somewhat narrow) deck along the perimeter, and ladders going in. The (natural) temperature is that of a warm bath.
Definitely worth experiencing if you have the time or the inclination.
