After reading a negative review of DanceSport, I needed to strongly comment, I love DanceSport. If you have a bad day or need to unwind in a safe and friendly environment. This p...

Not all instructors are real dancers 6/24/2010

So I was looking for a studio to take my wife so we can learn to dance better together. I liked the fact that they have a party every night. We weren't looking to become professionals, just wanted a few lessons to learn the basics. We have crazy schedules and wanted personal attention so we decided to take some privates. Given that we are beginners I feel like we were paired up with an instructor who teaches beginners only. I felt like the instructor was not a dancer but someone who was trained in a couple months to be a dance instructor. When we asked questions about certain steps the instructor seemed to be unsure about the technique. I would rather pay more to get a better instructor than have someone who is not experienced as a dancer. Asking questions was completely pointless and we just went by the syllabus he created for us, which was probably created for him. It was waste of money. I am sure there are other instructors that are much better, but because of their willingness to provide an unprofessional teacher I will not be coming back. We found a better studio which is further downtown but worth the trip. Pros: Huge space, lots of different rooms and options Cons: Some of staff unqualified, management/administration more

Can't Stop Dancing! 5/18/2010

I admit that I did not know what to expect when I showed up for my free orientation. April DeBock who conducted the class was so friendly and made me feel at ease. I signed up for 1 four group class course initially and am now signed up for private lessons which really help. My instructor, Ron Rosario, is a wonderful and very patient teacher. I am having such a delightful time and now take 3 classes a week. Am trying to convince some family members and co-workers to come join me in the great fun that I'm experiencing. It's also a terrific workout if you need to lower your blood pressure. Pros: Terrific Instructors and Friendly Staff Cons: None more

I Love DanceSport 3/31/2010

I have studied at other studios but I find that DanceSport is my first choice hands down. My teachers really know their stuff! They don't pad the lesson time with chit chat - they teach. The parties are a great way to meet people and the variety of music is fun. I like guest week because I can bring my friends and they can join the practice party with me after their free lesson. Pros: Friendly staff, excellent teachers, great location more

Giselle from ""Burn the Floor"" at Dance Sport! 3/17/2010

So...I don't know how many of you saw ""Burn the Floor"" while it was on Broadway... but I went to see it this fall and there was one dancer I absolutely could not stop watching, petite curly hair... I did my homework her name is Giselle. She's teaching at Dance Sport now! I took her Jive/ Samba class last Sunday. It is totally worth the price of the lesson just to be dancing in the same room as her... I still can't believe how fast she moves! Sunday was my first time at Dance Sport, the staff was super welcoming and the people really nice... I'm totally going back next week! more

Try the Introductory Private Lesson! 3/16/2010

I came to DanceSport mostly because it was close to my office. I just moved to the City and I was looking for someplace to continue dancing. DanceSport offers a free orientation class, so I signed up for that as well as their introductory private lesson. You have to take the introductory private lesson! I'm interested in International Standard and Latin and they paired me with the perfect instructor. Tobi is awesome! I've been seeing him once a week for private lessons ever since and I have learned so much! I can't wait to go back to my hometown and show off at my old studio. Pros: fantastic instruction more

Best Dance Studio By Far! 3/9/2010

I started taking classes this past September and I wish I started sooner. I am loving the class program I am doing and really appreciate the top-notch professional teaching staff they have...I know I'm getting the best lessons for my dollar (Thanks Andrianna and Steve!). If you want to learn how to dance or improve your dancing, this is the place...look no further. I love that the owner is hands on and I've spoken with him. What owner's of companies hang out with their clientele?! Just part of the overall quality of the studio. I've made some new friends since I've been taking classes and love to just chill out by the cafe after class, Dancesport is like a home away from home making everyone feel invited and comfortable. Go get your dance shoes and try it out! Pros: Professional, Fun, Great Atmosphere, Attentive Cons: I don't have enough time to take all the classes they have! more

I love this studio! 3/9/2010

I recently started dancing at DanceSport studio and I really love it! The teachers are excellent and teach very well to help students feel comfortable and learn in a friendly environment. Everyone that I have met - the students and the staff - are nice and put me at ease. I was nervous my first time here, but now I feel like I'm part of a family. Also -a real plus to me is the coffee. They have drip coffee and it is Intelligentsia brand, which is new to me. But I am a coffee lover and this one is so, so good. It's nice to take a little break between or after class and to have a cup (but I'll admit, I've been in the area and have just stopped in for a coffee and not to dance). I highly recommend this school - even if you just come to it to sit in the cafe and watch. Pros: friendly people, great dance instruction, amazing coffee Cons: I haven't found a con yet more

Best Dance Studio in New York City 3/6/2010

I've been to all the studios in NYC and this one is by far the nicest. 9 separate ballrooms, a full cafe and bar featuring hand brewed coffee and a nice wine selection. The staff is friendly, and the instruction is top notch. I went to check it out when I heard that the cast of Burn the Floor was doing workshops here. There are two entrances to the building and I took the wrong one to begin, so I was a little late. You have to take the East entrance which doesn't seem as prominent as the first entrance I saw.. anyway... I was very impressed with the staff and the space. Plus, the coffee really is amazing... who would think in a dance studio, you can get the best coffee in midtown. Intelligentsia brand coffee that they grind and brew when ordered. No more Starbucks for me. Pros: Huge space, great cafe, incredible location Cons: entrance can be tricky to find more

The place where your dancing dreams comes true! 2/5/2010

The first thing that I noticed when i arrived at Dance Sport was the extremly courteous and helpful staff. You are made to feel as welcome as a member of the family. When I am concerned about the level of difficulty of a class, the teacher will give me a detailed descirption of the material to be covered, as well as what skills I should have before taking the class . Pros: best teachers, great service, perfect food!!! Cons: no more

Awesome! 5/11/2009

This place is great! Argentine Tango instruction is top-notch...Salsa and everything else too! Definitely worth the investment. It will be your favorite hobby and think when someone asks what you do, you could say that you're a (insert dance) dancer! Pros: Great instructors, fun people Cons: none more

Great Studio! 5/11/2009

DanceSport has a great cast of characters all the way from the administrators to the instructors and the patrons who enjoy Paul's (the owner) very inviting parties and events. The studio has become a great part of my life and I always have someone fun to talk to and dance with while I'm there. I train with Jennifer for Argentine tango and she is amazing...but all the Tango instructors are seriously top-notch. For such a difficult and passionate dance, this is very important. I can't vouch for the other instructors since I've never taken classes from them, but the majority of them are very sweet, engaging and very passionate about dancing. Start with group classes until you find a dance you love and then do privates. If you are serious about your dancing, you will get far more from private instruction. \r \r This studio and dancing in general come HIGHLY recommended! \r Pros: Great instructors, great environment, fun activities more

NOT THE PLACE TO GO 12/17/2008

My wife and I tried this place and were very disappointed. The staff were incompetent and just wanted to get us to sign up for the biggest package. Definitely not worth the money. Cons: incompetent staff, high prices, pressured sales, bad environment more

Everything's great until you ask for a refund ... buyer beware! 8/10/2008

I had a horrible time with the administration of this dance studio. They're professional until you request a refund and then they pull every trick in the book to avoid giving you your money back. I booked over $300 in dance classes, but discovered a scheduling conflict and called back (5 minutes later) to get a refund. This was within their cancellation policy, which states money will be refunded if the request is made before classes begin. They transferred me to their supervisor, Lydia, whom I left voice mail after voice mail with describing the reason for canceling and requesting a refund. I called her back 5 times to follow up on my request and never heard back from her. When I spoke to Miguel at the front desk he claimed they reversed the charges but that they didn't know where to reach me (which is suspicious since they have my phone number in their contact list and I left my number on every vmail). It has been several weeks and my charges have still not been reversed. This company does not honor its refund policy, buyer beware!!! Pros: Good tango program, teachers Cons: Administration doesn't honor it's refund policy more

Best Dance school in town!!! 12/10/2007

You pay for what you get. I love the high energy atmosphere. The staff conducts themselves with the utmost professionalism. They are now located on 33rd Street between 5th and 6th Ave., phone remains the same. more
