I have eaten sushi all across the country, and since I've moved to Tahoe, I'm stoked to have a place like Java Sushi so close. The quality of their fish is by far the best in the Tahoe area (including the flashy new sushi bars opening that seem to have forgotten that sushi is about the fish and not the seventeen sauces and toppings.) The chefs and waitstaff are friendly and knowledgeable about their product, and the atmosphere is like a never-ending party. The service was impressive, with two waitresses weaving around the small restaurant making eye contact and smiling at every patron. One waitress who is there almost nightly remembers us by name AND our usual pre-dinner drinks! The rolls were unbelievable with combinations I've never seen before. Their menu is huge, almost fifty rolls, but if you ask your chef or server for something special, they are always happy to pull out something outrageous and delicious! They rock nightly specials and happy hour discounts, and although they definitely aren't ""fast food,"" their quality supercedes the speed. Ryo, one of the chefs, told us at dinner that if they wouldn't serve the fish to their own mother, they wouldn't serve it to us. That's all we needed to hear! For a unique and totally fun experience, be sure to stop into Java Sushi!
Pros: Amazing fish, friendly service, great atmosphere
Cons: Small size, slow-ish service
