Garfield's house 3/21/2006

Did you have any idea that there was a president that lived in Mentor, Ohio? If you have been to the Great Lakes Mall, you have been less than a mile away of the home of James A. Garfield. I think it is a great way to spend a day, very imformative. I had a chance to go a few years ago and thought it was the coolest thing to know that a president lived there. It is beautiful inside and fun to see what our 20th president had in his home. A fun fact is that he could catch the train in his backyard, you will learn much more by taking a visit there. more

Tucked Away 10/20/2005

Most people who visit Great Lakes Mall in Mentor, OH probably do not realize that they are so close to the home of a president. Even more probably don't care. I have just come back from visiting this site and must say that through some National Park Service funding, the place actually makes for a great experience. You can tour the house with a NPS tour guide and or browse through a mini-museum to see some of the major accomplishments of Garfields life including those that led to his death. While this site is not free, every Clevelander who hasn't visited in the past 10 years should revisit this piece of our history. more

20th president 7/9/2005

Spend a little time learning about our 20th president. Take a tour, watch a video, or sign your children up for a special program. Visit the carriage house, the campaign office and yes even the chicken coop. Learn about the strong woman named Lucretia that he was married to and how she took on the project of building a windmill Prices are reasonable. more
