This is not the real deal. Jalapeño's is bland comfort food that has never heard of any place south of Wichita. The complimentary tortilla chips were homemade, so I guess that's an A for effort. But they were quite thin and flavorless. The "salsa" to dip them in was a chunky sauce that tasted as though it came from a jar.
The main meal was just as disappointing. My cheese enchilada tasted like something I could have bought in the frozen food section of the grocery store. And it was small. My beef taco came in a thin tortilla shell. (At least it was homemade rather than out of a box.) And the beef was not shredded the way authentic taco beef is. It was ground beef. Just like you'd make for yourself in a frying pan at home, only not as well seasoned.
Nothing tasted bad and the service was fine. But I've no reason to go here again. Walk around the corner, north half a block up Quivira, to Pica Pica. That's real Mexican food made by people who know what they're doing. Or drive just down 87th to the other side of I-35, next to Wendy's, and eat at Pancho's. Also great Mexican food. Don't waste your time at Jalapeño's when there's good Mexican food so close at hand.
Pros: It's got a nice atmosphere, I guess.
Cons: Bland. This is not Mexican food. It's not even good American imitation Mex.
