What can I say, except I'm very disappointed. The much-anticipated arrival of Jacques Torres in my neighborhood led me to shop there for a few, last-minute, Christmas stocking stuffers. What a let-down! First and foremost, their prices are insane. $4 for a tiny chocolate Santa (many of which contained bubbles, scratches, and other flaws); $9 for 9 absurdly ordinary caramels -- Kraft, anyone? The total cost for 2 miniature chocolate Santas, 18 bite-size caramels, and a few chocolate-dipped graham crackers? Around $40. Needless to say, my eyes popped out of my head at the cash register. I left thinking, ""this better be some pretty damned good chocolate!"" In a word, NOPE! Average, average, average ... at best.
Pros: Convenient Upper West Side location, aesthetically pleasing store
Cons: Average quality at way, way, way too high a price
