In 1932, Thor Jacobson opened the doors of his neighborhood butcher shop. In the shadow of Madison's Oscar Mayer plant, Thor's shop on North Street attracted homemakers and husbands alike with a reputation for the finest cuts of meat. Armed with a sense of humor, he told tales of the old world, and his shop fairly buzzed with activity even during the Great Depression. He brought his old world recipes for sausage and brats to Madison, and he changed us all forever, because several of your favorite Jacobson's brats are made today with those recipes from 1932.

His sons Grant and Ole took over the family business and it grew to Madison's west side. Grant and Ole perfected Jacobson's famous homemade potato salad and offered it for a few weeks each summer. When the boys decided to retire and hang up their aprons, Grant's son Mike donned his. In the 1980's Mike added more stores in the Madison area because Grandpa Thor always said folks like to shop in their own neighborhood.

Mik e's sons Mark and Todd loved helping out and as teenagers began helping their dad with catering, setting up the huge grills for picnics and company parties. In 2002 Mark and Todd joined the family business full time. They're working hard and having a lot of fun, just like all the Jacobsons before them. They welcome a new generation of shoppers and greet old friends each day at their 8 locations. It comes naturally. After all, they're the Jacobson Brothers!.
