My wife and I had a wonderful experience going to the Grand Canyon and staying at Jacob Lake Inn. This was our first trip to the North Rim and we were really looking forward to it. We had talked with some friends that said we should stop by Jacob Lake Inn to get some cookies on the way.
Well the North Rim lodge was booked so we decided to get reservations at Jacob Lake. Our friends said that the cabins were a little rustic but we wanted an adventure, and they were the lowest price so we booked one.
My wife and I both thought it was a wonderful experience. Yeah, its a cabin in the woods. If you don't like a cabin in the woods you won't like booking a cabin. It was a little old, but it was everything a cabin in the woods should be. Quiet, cozy, warm and in nature.
We ate at the lodge and the food was very good for where we were at. Our server, and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. They told us where were the best spots for seeing sunset and helped make the experience great. It looks like the staff is mostly college kids, but they really seemed to do their best to make us feel welcome.
We did try the cookies and they are amazing, be sure to try the german chocolate cookie it was great. My wife liked the lemon zuccini, though I wasn't brave enough to try it she loved it.
Overall we really loved the stop on our way to the Grand Canyon. I guess its the kind of place you love or you hate. In some ways its like stepping back in time. If you want to have a ""hilton"" kind of experience, that's not the type of place this is. If you are thinking this will be a 5 star hotel, you are going to be WAY disappointed. But if you go expecting a family run roadside inn, from the 50's or 60's you are going to have a great time. Its a little old, but its got good food, good service, and a lot of charm.
So stop for the night, grab some dinner and some cookies and have fun at the canyon, cause after all that's what you are there to see isn't it. Jacob Lake Inn is just a bonus on the way.
