Pay with cash! 5/5/2009

If you use a credit card here, do not let it leave your sight! Identity theft reported to owner/manager was not received in a professional manner. Needs to keep a watchful eye on employees and be responsible for keeping patrons from being victimized! more

Great place, food, & service 3/23/2009

I stopped here for a quick lunch last week after touring the Eastern state historic prison and had an amazing lunch. The atmosphere was classy yet casual, and my server (Laura I think?) was great! We didn't want for a thing. I would recomend jack's to anyone looking for some great food, quick and resonably priced. Thanks Jack's for a great experience in a sea of less then mediocre lunches I've had recently. Ps waitress had the cutest swagger more

horrible experience 2/15/2009

We had a reservation for Jack?s Firehouse for Valentine?s Day, I have been there a few times before, and enjoy their food and atmosphere. The restaurant is usually dimly lit, has high ceiling, and a rustic feel. So it seems as though Jack?s Firehouse has acquired the offices next door that were previously owned by Eastern State. Someone in charge thought it was a bright idea to turn this spare room into extra seating. The room/previous office is a bright white, surrounded by bathroom style horrible brown tiles, and has a loud furnace in it. As you could probable have figured out, we were sat in this room on Valentine?s day, as were a number of other couples (while their main seating area was not even full). I just can?t fathom who at Jack?s Firehouse thought this was a good idea? especially on Valentine?s Day? You could see that everyone sitting there was noticeable uncomfortable. After ordering (looking back on it we should have left before this point) we told the waiter to bring the food to-go, because it was a little embarrassing to be all dressed up and sitting in what looked like a bathroom. You could even see the people walking by on the street looking in, confused to who owned this weird bathroom style room. What stinks is that I liked Jack?s Firehouse, but this move has ruined any chance of me ever going back. We ended up going next door Urban Saloon and drinking, I?ll be eating my Valentines Day to-go salad for dinner tonight! Thanks Urban for saving us! more

Great atmosphere 5/26/2008

Part of the charm of Philly - great food, great customer service, delicious desserts! We've dined both inside and out - large group or just the two of us - and never been disappointed. Food is always warm, presented well, and promptly. Outdoor fountain adds a charming spot to relax and tune out some of the city noise. Service staff are excellent - if you need ANYTHING they will do their best to provide. Be sure to make reservations to avoid disappointment if seating isn't available. And save room for dessert - they are yummy! :) Pros: Ambience, service Cons: A drive from the suburbs more

Cool looking but not worth the price. 2/10/2007

The restaurant is really fun looking and the bar and outside sitting seem like they could be fun but the food was over-cooked and over-priced. I don't really hate it but don't recommend it either. Pros: The actual place Cons: The food and price more

Great place to have a party!!! 12/6/2006

I had my rehearsal dinner here and could not have asked for anything more! The traditional BBQ is out of this world and can't be beat! The southern style pulled pork and the crab cakes are outstanding! Everyone of my guests was still talking about the food from the rehearsal dinner at the actual wedding! Great private party spaces and a wonderful atmosphere! Pros: Atmosphere, BBQ, Service Cons: Can't think of any! more

Wonderful food, service and atmosphere 12/2/2006

Great service, incredable food 11/30/2006

Great place to have a party the server's were very acommodating and thoughtful, the atmosphere is historic vintage Philadelphia, the food was plenty of it and good eating in particular the pulled pork and the buffalo, the desserts were sinfully good. I would recomend dinning to every one. Pros: The food and service Cons: non more

Not Impressed 11/4/2005

I was here in October with 2 friends. I guess we weren't as fashionable as the other ""business professionals"" at the bar and in the restaurant, and we weren't treated very kindly. We had the pumpkin soup, pulled pork, ribs, and buffalo. The food was just okay, nothing great about it at all. The wood work in there is so dusty, it was gross. The 2 tables to either side of us received the free cookies with their check and we got nothing. I guess it was pretty clear that they don't want people dressed in jeans in their restaurant. I would never go back there. more

Not worth the money 6/3/2004

Not worth the money. Went there with a coupon and thank god for that. We got the Pulled Pork for an appetizer which was not to bad. Our dinners were horrible. My wife got ribs which you can get better ones at any Fridays and I got Buffalo medallions which were just not worth $23. Also Soda come in little bottles which add up if you have more. Pros: Nice looking rest. Cons: , food, Prices more

The food 2/28/2004

The service was excellent and atmosphere was nice, but the food! I had Lamb or was surposed to be but the gristle under a nice sauce was uneatable. Others at our table had the rib steak that looked like it was in a fire except it was cold. The food needs a major improvement before I would return. Pros: service, ambience Cons: , food, food more

Jack's for BBQ ????????? 11/5/2003

This is NO BBQ joint. He doesn't even put pepper in his chili. What kind of wrongheaded idea puts this yuppie watering hole in a BBQ category with Phoebe's. Pros: Good Bar Scene Cons: Bland Food more

GREAT 10/28/2003

I have been to Jack's several times and each time has been more enjoyable than the last. Last time I ordered the chef special for 40pp. Best meal I ever had. We started with the pulled pork on garlic chip and award winning ribs. That was followed up with a shrimp and scallop dish and great salmon dish. For the main coarse we were given a lamb dish thats was excellent and a duck dish that was better than the lamb. The best part is dessert. We had 2 pieces Choc chip Pecan Pie(AWESOME). 2 pieces of ""Peanut butter and Jelly"" cheesecake(the best) 2 choclotate brownies and bread pudding. WOW It was alot of food but well well worth it. Great place, friendly service and best of all GREAT FOOD. Pros: Nice bar selection, Great Food, Parking Lot across th more

Jack Rocks! 8/11/2003

Jack McDavid is one of the most personable people I have ever met and his terrific personality shows through in everything he prepares. The place has so much character (and how appropriate, because so does Jack!). The food is cooked to order, served hot and suberbly presented. The menu is unique with some very different offerings (we enjoyed a buffalo strip steak for dinner and pumpkin cheesecake for dessert). It was WONDERFUL! I can't say enough good about Jack's Firehouse! Pros: Excellent Food, Excellent Service, Excellent Ambiance Cons: distance from my home more

a lot of fun - Philly Style! 1/9/2003

The few times that I have eaten at Jack's were some of the best. The meals were great, service team does whatever is needed to make your stay a good one, and the old building is loaded with character. Pros: environment Cons: street parking more

Still Best in Philly 11/6/2002

Brought a friend to Jack's in October and they knocked my socks off again. By far the best ribs around. The food is top-notch, the service tremendous and the bourbon selection at the bar is the best I've seen. Freshest catfish on earth. You haven't lived until you've tried the bread pudding. Jack's kicks A-S-S!!! Pros: Ribs, Game, Bourbon more
