ITEMS ADVERTISED IN FLYERS OFTEN NOT IN STORE. Case in point; 6/2/2007, I went to buy an air conditioner, 6000 btu $149.00 (an average price for most stores, an exceptionally low price for J B Hostetters, and I thought I'd buy local) not in store. I interupted two employees deep in non store talk, one said they don't sell that brand, would not even know how to get one, the second guy, with half a sandwich hanging from his mouth-at 9:30 AM, said it could be ordered but they will not service them.
I feel they repeatedly advertise items they do not sell, to get people in the door, hoping they buy other overpriced items while they are there.
J B Hostetter's owners were instrumental in organizing a group of citizens to keep Walmart, Lowes, etc from building in our area. I did not take sides then. The next time a Home Depot or Lowes wants to build around here, I will take sides, and it will not be on the side of J B Hostetters in Mount Joy, Pa.
Pros: Local
Cons: Advertised specials are often not carried in store
