This is one of our go-to spots because the food is always excellent. It is a chain restaurant but that is not a bad thing, it means they have replicated something good. Everything is great, and the mac and cheese is sinful, it's the richest mac I have ever had and has bacon bits and cream sauce. Bar is good for an after work drink, contemporary attractive decor, free validated parking in garage underground, good date place, very dark in parts of the dining area. more

I had a Thai Kai salad and it was absolutely incredible. I have had the grilled chicken salad which is also amazing. Whenever my drink was low, a refill was brought to me before I had to ask for it. I love this restaurant - parking is always easy, the food is wonderful, the noise level is low, the ambiance is attractive, and the service is efficient and pleasant. There are lots of great places to eat north of the loop, but few combine all of the above. If conversation is an important part of your dining experience, this is the place for you. Keep it up! One of my favorite chain restaurants of all time. I love to come in here for a salad but most if not all of the entrees are excellent as well. While the menu might seem small everything is great. All of the side dishes compliment the dishes wonderfully. more

I don't know why people keep saying that the prices are high at J Alexanders because they're not--especially for the portion sizes served. You could go to Subway and get a footlong sub for the same price as an 1/2 lb. Bacon Swiss Burger and Shoestring fries at J Alexanders! I went there for the first time and was SO happy with the place. The staff is very friendly and quick, the food was amazing (and I'm picky), and the prices were just right. I had the Bacon Swiss Burger and fries (both of which are enormous in size) for $10 and my friend had the rotisserie chicken and smashed potatoes for $15 (again, HUGE portion sizes, so come hungry!) The food here is great. I am not so high on the menu change, but the food is still excellent. The prices are high, but the food IS worth it. The martini's on the other hand are small. They taste ok, nothing to great and definately not bad, but the size of the drink (8 oz. glass and never filled to the top) is annoying. I am not asking for a Gibsons sized 12 oz. but if a restaurant is going to have a decent sized martini list like J Alexanders they should sport a 10 oz. glass. Some of the best appetizers I have ever had. The wine list is impressive and very affordable (Cakebread Cab at only $72!). Great staff; prompt service and very good looking.
