post-katrina kudos for Irene's 1/9/2006

My husband and I are frequent visitors to the lovely city of New Orleans, and we just tried Irene's for the first time tonight. It was a wonderful experience, that stands out even in a city with so many good restaurants. The food and service was amazing. Even on a Tuesday night in mid-January, the restaurant had a good crowd. The food was excellent, the service friendly and efficient, and the whole experience was a great value. We especially enjoyed the oyster appetizer and the light-as-air tiramisu. They also had an interesting wine list with more great values. Go while you can get in without the wait! Pros: value, food, service Cons: popular more

A must for New Orleans visitors 6/14/2005

I'm a local, and a former girlfriend introduced me to Irene's a few years ago. I didn't know what I was missing. Food is always outstanding. Atmosphere is crowded and cluttered- but it works! Service can be great, but when they get really busy, you're going to wait. The downside- unless you go very early, you're going to have to wait (maybe a long time) to be seated. Plan for it. You're not going there just to eat: you're going there for the whole experience. Have a drink and relax. This is New Orleans.. forget about rushing. Pros: Food Cons: Long wait more

Shelter from the storm 5/25/2005

Thanks to city search for this tip before going to New Orleans. All expectations were far exceeded and will be a must stop when visiting New Orleans in the future. Food and service was outstanding...Yes, the duck is all it's suppose to be and more...Wine is list fabulous...Take the time to stop and speak with Ms. Irene - she is a doll.. From start to finish par excellence!!!!! P.S. I'm a chef and very critical - but this was outstanding.. don't miss out on your next trip! Ask a local where it is located.. Pros: Food , Wine, Service more

Never Forget - Duck + Tiramisu 11/29/2004

I have eaten many meals at Irene's. Every one has been perfect. Their signature dish is Duck St Phillipe -- they raise the bar over every restaurant that ever served me duck. For dessert, brace yourself for Tiramisu like you've never tasted. My adult daughter isn't much of an eater, and she proclaimed between bites that Irene's is the best food she ever ate. Our favorite restaurant anywhere. Should be #1. Update 11/30/04: incomparable fish and wondrous service! Pros: Elegant + reasonable, Try signature dishes, Duck St Phillipe!!!! more

impressive first date 9/28/2004

This is the perfect place for a first date, the dim lighting the piano playing in the back ground, nice bottle of wine and the cozy tables. What girl wouldn't be impressed. Pros: great prices, romantic setting, great food and wine more

Unforgettable 3/1/2003

We first went to Irene's on our Honeymoon. We have talked about that experience many times since. Last week went to New Orleans for our 1st Anniversary. Again we were more than elated with the overall service, extraordinary cuisine and romantic atmosphere. Irene's ...A TRUE JEWEL ! Mr. & Mrs. Bruce Flett Shreveport, La. more

TWICE 2/23/2003

We ate here twice during our recent stay. We had been told to get there early or be perpared to wait 1 to 2 hours. Arriving at 5:45, we were seated immediately on Friday night. Enjoyed the experience so much we went back on Saturday. The waiter must have remembered, that we were coming back because he saved us the same table for 6:00. When we arrived they already had a full waiting room wondering why it was open. Pros: best value, large wine list Cons: do not reverse tables more

Food is the #1 feature here 12/2/2002

The food is as good as any in the Quarter. Certainly the best Italian restaurant. We did not care for our desserts however. The service is good and friendly. The decor is reminiscent of a rec room and you have to be willing to wait for a table. No reservations! Pros: food, red sauce, waiter Cons: desserts, no reservations, crowded waiting area more

MaMia!! Is this Italy?? 11/18/2002

I love this restaurant not only for the food, but the atmosphere. The decor is warm, and you feel like you're in Italy, dark wood, cozy high backed booths, warm crusty bread, olive oil, wine...MaMIA!!! Irenes is #1 for me for italian cuisine in the quarter! more

You will swear you're in Italy 8/20/2002

Small, unpretensuous, cafe. It has its counter part in the villages of Provence (France) and Tuscany (Italy). It is a series of small, cozy rooms making for a romantic, atmosphere. The food is simple Italian fare, but well prepared, and the service is excellent. Pros: Not expensive, Good service, Romantic atmospherer Cons: No reservations permi more

I love Irene's food. It's the best I've had in New Orleans so far. The atmosphere is wonderful and the service is impeccable! Do not miss when in New Orleans!!!!!! It's first come, first serve, so arrive early. To us, it's definitely worth a 2.5 hour wait, though. more
