Tracie is an amazing instructor! Her customized approach to individualized fitness has transformed my body. After trying everything from running to yoga and not getting results, I got stuck in a fitness rut. Tracie’s ability to zero in on my strengths and challenges made a noticeable difference by the third session. She’s friendly, patient and extremely insightful. Thanks to Tracie, I actually look forward to exercising! Pros: Best Pilates in New York! more

Amazing Pilates instructor who will cater to your needs 3/9/2009

Before I found Tracie (through Citysearch a year ago) I had tried yoga and all kinds of therapy and had been to see numerous doctors to cure my back. I was in chronic pain and there were days I had to lay down several times a day or take a hot shower to numb the pain. Sessions with Tracie improved my posture and strengthened my abs to the point that I am feeling much stronger. I am also much more aware of what happens to my body and muscles and where the pain originates from. I am a writer and can't recommend Tracie enough for those like me. Pilates is great for all the people who sit in front of computer a lot and don't have strong core muscles. I feel like a new person and all thanks to Tracie and her both intuitive and knowledge-full instruction. \r Pros: Professionalism and individual approach more

Tracie is a phenomenal Pilates Instructor. She caters each session to both my physical and mental state. I went to her with chronic neck/back pain and she has helped me work through that, build strength and regain flexibility. She's got a natural gift for understanding human physiology and her 'laser-eye' sees each flexing muscle in my body as I try to work through the variety of moves she prescribes during each session (a bit humbling for a perfectionist like me!). We have been one-on-one for the past 14 months and I have no doubt her classes are killer. Sadly my 'working-mom' schedule makes it impossible for me to get to her class in Park Slope. If you are thinking Pilates, think Tracie Matthews! more

Pilates Just for You 3/8/2009

You can define exactly what you need for yourself with Tracie's help. Small realistic steps that lead to big results. Amazing! Get to know how you learn, how your body and brain work together, how to make the connection - that is, build the bridge you need to get to where you want to be. I'd been doing Pilates and other mind/body work for years and Tracie nailed what worked for me in a way that no one had before. She never puts anyone else down, is always positive, and will not let you hide. Not always easy, but never impossible or frustrating, and results are there with every breath. Inhale, exhale. . . Resigned my lease for Pilates Class 8/7/2008

I have been going to Tracie's class in my Manhattan apartment building since March. My lease is expiring in October and I was thinking about moving out of my building. I decided to stay and sign another year just because I love Tracie's Pilates class so much!! She is a great teacher. She always gives everyone in the class personal attention and tailors each move to their own body. I always look forward to her classes and see myself getting stronger and stronger each week. Great Pilates Instructor! 4/26/2008

I've been taking pilates lessons from Tracie for two years and I'm loving my new body. I'm more flexible, toned, and I have better awareness of my body. My posture and the general way I carry myself is much better. Tracie is an extremely sharp instructor and picks up on absolutely everything I do right and wrong, no matter how small and subtle. I often feel she has a better understand of my body than even I do! She finds the right set of exercises every session that keeps me engaged and working hard without going past my limits. She's also very engaging and funny and she keeps every lesson going smoothly. I'm thrilled that I found her, she's a keeper!\r more

Fabulous Pilates 4/3/2008

I've been doing pilates with Tracie two times a week for about four years, and it's amazing how much I've changed. I've done mat and machine classes with her and they're both an amazing workout. I used to be a dancer, and Tracie helped me get back all of my flexibility and range of motion. I recently discovered that I have a pretty severe shoulder injury, and through pilates Tracie has helped me increase the strength of my shoulder while decreasing the incredible pain I used to feel. I am now able to use my shoulder as if it was 100%. Tracie really knows what she's doing, and I can't recommend her enough. more

Best Pilates in New York Area 3/24/2008

I have been doing pilates for 10 years, but it wasn't until I started working with Tracie Matthews that it all came together for me. Tracie is the most talented, thoughtful pilates instructor I have ever met. She is exceptionally knowledgable about the human body and is constantly attending seminars and reading about the latest in the Pilates industry. I have neck issues and feel 100% confident that she understands how to both strengthen and protect that area. Tracie is kind and funny and extremely easy to be with - I look forward to my weekly sessions with her. Best of all, my body has completely slimmed down and is much stronger in the two years that I have been working with Tracie. I am delighted to be able to write this recommendation. more

Superb Pilate Instruction 2/27/2008

\r \r I have been a lifelong yoga practitioner and had once tried Pilates many years ago and thought it was static and dull. But when my husband started working with Tracie I decided to give it another try and am now a complete convert. I have learned about how my body truly works for the first time and have gained a much more profound level of control and ease. Tracie is deeply knowledgeable and tailors every session to work on what I need to take my health to the next level. And on top of her proficiency in helping my body become more graceful and strong, she's kind, generous and funny. What's not to love? more

Wonderful individual attention with an instructor who truely cares 2/25/2008

Intuitive Motion Pilates gives you one on one training that is specifically catered towards the individual. I absolutely loved my experience here. My very knowledgeable instructor kept me motivated and taught a variety of pilates moves focusing on the areas that I wanted to target. This helped me to not get bored and to use muscles that I wanted to work but did not really know how to. As a result I am stronger, healthier and fitter. I also learned how to incorporate pilates into my daily life and to think about exercise differently. I would highly recommend Intuitive Motion Pilates where you can improve yourself in a clean peaceful enviornment with a highly trained and wonderful teacher. more

Amazing instructor! 2/19/2008

After having my first child via c-section two years ago, I remained totally unfocused on getting back in shape. About 3 months ago, I began pilates with Tracie. In 3 months she has effectively made me more graceful, stronger, and more invested in the body I know I can have. She is an incredibly patient and skilled instructor. Her ability to address specific issues (I have bad knees, etc.) while re-sculpting my entire body is beyond impressive, it's been inspiring. Pros: Patient, effective, expert knowledge Cons: No cons! more

A gifted pilates teacher 2/19/2008

Tracie is a blessing to work with. She has an impeccable eye, and her ability to articulate exercises and concepts is extraordinary. I worked with her when I was a student of pilates, and found her sessions to be extremely beneficial as both a teacher and student. I have referred many people to her, from all levels of experience. Tracie is an incredible teacher, she creates results in people. Her knowledge of the body, her meticulous eye, and her warm personaltiy make her a very special teacher that stands out from all the rest.\r more

Tracie to the rescue! 2/18/2008

After a few days of extreme pain in my right hip that came on unexpectedly and made it very difficult for me to walk, without skipping a beat, Tracie made an emergency house call. After a few exercises and doing her pilates magic for 15 minutes, the pain lessened significantly. By the next day I was 90% better and able to walk again. I experienced first hand how her knowledge and dedication to her practice and her clients has more than fitness benefits. Yea Tracie! more

Single-handedly made me a pilates devotee 2/18/2008

I'm not a natural at this sort of thing. But after 25 years of very on-again off-again yoga practice, weight training etc., I have found Tracie's pilates training for the last couple of years a regimen I can happily adhere to, isn't boring and has really changed my physical self for the better. No mumbo-jumbo and exactly the right combination of challenge and encouragement. more

The Tracie Cure 2/15/2008

Tracie cured my year of serious back pain in a few weeks of serious work, and has kept it at bay for over a year. This was after a visit to a back surgeon (who recommended PT and/or Pilates before considering surgery), two physical therapists and a course of accupunture. \r \r Tracie does this with what seem to be x-ray eyes as she directs your progress into Pilates. What she doesn't know intuitively she researches and figures out, which indicates how seriously and individually she takes her work. \r \r I can't say enough about Tracie. Go see her! Pros: Tracie is great. Cons: It's addictive. more
