Gorgeous Hotel! 6/3/2010

I used to work for IHG so I had a discount at all the hotels in the brand. This hotel is gorgeous with an old school feel to it. It's very classy. The rooms have great views of the city. 24 hour room service and delicious lobster bisque. What stood out to me the most was the excellent customer service. My boyfriend at the time and I wanted to go out for a night of drinking. While he was smoking a cigarette he spoke to the man in charge of valet about how we wanted to go out. The valet man offered us the hotel's towncar and said that we can take that instead of a cab, free of charge. We just had to tell the driver where we wanted to go. I thought that was really awesome. \r \r It's also right across from the gorgeous Grace Cathedral. I'd one day want to get married there and have my reception at this hotel :) more

Lovely! 1/1/2009

This is a lovely older hotel that is very beautiful. I have stayed there twice on business and enjoyed every minute of it. Their meeting rooms are very homey as well. Make sure you go to the Top of the Mark (top floor of the hotel) for a drink and a great view! Don't plan to park a car here...too expensive. more

Only if you get a great deal..... 8/17/2008

I got a pretty good deal ($147 off Priceline), and for $147, I would probably stay again, though I would hope to get someplace else. \r \r Mediocre hotel. I've booked on Priceline many-a-times, and have been treated as though I was a full service guest. I usually use Priceline as a way to ""test"" out hotels, and most places understand this. However, the Mark Hopkins treats you as though they are doing you a favor for giving you such a great deal. The hotel was not that booked and we got a room on the 3rd floor, overlooking air ducts. To their credit, they did fulfill our king, non-smoking room... so this was not that big of a deal. I do bring this up however because I read many other Priceline reviews for this hotel where people got the same floor / view. Coincidence? No.\r \r The hotel nickel and dimes you on EVERYTHING. $12.95 for Internet? Okay-fine. 2 laptops? Pay twice. WHAT? I have never paid twice for hooking up two laptops in one room. MAYBE get charged twice, but they always remove the second charge. Not at the Mark Hopkins. $25.90 / per day for two laptops, 3 days = $77.70. Ridiculous. Their reasoning? It pulls a different IP each time. B.S.\r \r Care to use the Business Center with a couple new iMacs? Get ready to fork out $10 for 20 minutes. Only need to print your boarding pass which takes 2 minutes? $10. Fax? You pay. Print? You pay. \r \r Hotel itself is nice. Nice entrance, nice lobby, nice rooms. Not $400/night nice, but for $147 in SF, it's not bad. It is on top of Nob Hill, so get ready to fork out $5 for a cab ride from Union Square (+ tip) or $5 for the cable car (get the $18 3-day muni pass), or walk, as I did.\r \r All in all, don't book this place directly. If you happen to get it off Hotwire or Priceline, be happy with the price. Just know you will get an air duct view and will be nickel and dimed for everything.\r \r Need Quick internet access? Go across the street to the Fairmont Cafe. Get a coffee, use the free wi-fi. Pros: Good view, if you get it. Clean, nice area. Cons: Everything else. more

Beautiful and Powerful on top of Nob Hill! 2/17/2008

This is such an empowering building to pull up to! You tend to imagine the players of past days and feel this classic elegance transcend upon you. The service was impeccable, from the cleaners to the room service, I was not disappointed! My room was just stunning, the decor was again, classic, and the views were simply priceless. The menu for room service offered many delicious choices. Think Lobster Bisque with champagne in the afternoon, Mark Hopkins version of Eggs Benedict swapped ham for crabcakes and avocado. Late night menu and bar service to the room is also key. The Top of The Mark was where I enjoyed a super healthy breakfast buffet; lox and tomatos, cottage cheese, fruit yogurt parfait, gourmet cheese, fresh berries, an egg white omelette with crimini mushrooms is what set me for the day. Now this is a place I could call home. As for parking, they have a garage which will valet your vehicle at a moments notice. Anyone staying in Nob Hill should most definately know that space in this city is VERY limited and sometimes you just have to compromise with paying a due for the convenience that this hotel does offer. Pros: great location, historical, architechtural gem, grand. more

Awful Hotel in Nob Hill 3/9/2007

This hotel has too much hype! The rooms were tiny and the service was horrendous! You're better off staying at a Holiday Inn! Pros: Location Cons: Bad Service, Bad Amenities, Bad food in restaurant more

Great service and plenty of luxury 9/28/2006

Would definitely recommend this hotel, try to get a room on the higher levels with ""Club InterContinental Lounge"" access. If you are looking for a deal and are planning to stay over a weekend you may want to join the PriorityClub (Ambassador for $150) before hand, you will then get one night free and priority service. Refer to the Website it is accurate. more

Excellent service 11/27/2005

We stayed at the Mark Hopkins on our honeymoon and the service could not have been better. We had a large room with a wonderful view; there was champagne and a welcome care awaiting us when we checked in. We loved this hotel and have great memories of it. more

Great Hotel 10/11/2005

By far the best hotel in SF. If you can get a good deal, then you are set. The service is exceptional and the rooms are so spacious. PROS: Late check out until 4pm. Complimentary beverages served all day and night in the lobby. Rooms are very spacious - I mean really spacious you can literally have 5 people in a standard room. The service is exceptional, we got all our questions answered promptly and there is always someone in the lobby if you have any questions. The views are all great - since the hotel is not massive its really intimate and you get your money's worth. Cons: Parking is difficult. more

Older, comfortable property 9/15/2005

This is an older hotel, with a good location. Rooms can vary in size, so if you're not happy speak up. Furnishings are comfortable. Service is attentive and helpful. The last time I stayed, I was charged $50 to park my car for one night, so I won't be staying here again. more

very good value! 8/8/2003

I stayed here with my two teenagers, and the room was reasonably spacious and quiet. However, there were no drawers large enough for clothes, which means we lived out of our suitcase. The phone did not work right despite repeated calls to maintenance. However, the rooms were kept clean; hotel staff was unfailingly polite and helpful. We had a nice city view, all of this for a good package price from an online travel site. Pros: quiet and clean, location, spacious Cons: no drawers! more

Big Disappointment 2/23/2003

We were promised a bay view, which we paid $80 more a night for, and got a mediocre city view. We were treated as if they were doing us a favor when we asked for assistance. A very disappointing anniversary! Pros: location Cons: unfriendly, overpriced more

Far short 2/8/2003

This Hotel fell far short of what I expected in EVERY way. Pros: Location Cons: Cost, Service, Concierge more

The Mark is still the standard.... 2/4/2003

The Mark Hopkins remains one of the grand hotels. Service is impeccable. The staff genuinely is pleased to be of service to you. more

SNOB HILL 11/28/2002

For the money, the rooms are not worth it!!! I did not expect to find hair on my pillows at the Mark Hopkins Inter-Continental. The guest service agents were snotty and the room service is lousy. I would not recommend this place to anyone... and for what it's worth, I work in the hospitality industry. Pros: chic, nice decor, great jazz Cons: cramped, poor valet parking, pricey more

Everything Herb Caen! 8/3/2002

I had to move away from the City about the time of Haeb Caen Way dedication and ever since I go back to his favorite places to feel closer to someone I never met-but I do admire his taste!! more

Elegance at it's finest 7/12/2002

The Mark is a classic, the recently renovated guest rooms, the new Nob Hill Restaurant and a San Francisco landmark the Top of the Mark, all make this the quitessentail destination in San Francisco. Check out the new Fitness Room! The Chef creates monthly prix-fixe menus in the restaurnat which are a ""hell"" of a deal! The Mark is the classiest Hotel in the Bay Area! more

Good but not value. 5/27/2002

I found the Mark Hopkins to have great service but the rooms where OK and the Price was extorshionate for what you are getting. I think it is very much a tourist trap. It's a good hotel, but for the money you pay to stay there, it needs to be an amazing hotel. Views are great, room service is ok (Yes, the Blue-Berry muffin is really good!). There are plenty of alternatives in the City that are actually worth their money. more
