Insalata's is fantastic! We had servers with personality and charm. We had BIG, flavorful food. The menu and decor are clean and straightforward. We found the staff entirely approachable and knowledgeable. They made great recommendations and parings. Okay, more on the food: Trio of Dips--this is hummus perfected. Nice and garlicky. Heirloom Tomato BLT Salad--here's an architectural take on a classic favorite. I mean, who doesn't love bacon (for the most part). Grilled Salmon Filet--oh my, the delicious bean, tomato, corn, pea assortment that it rests on was SO incredible. And the salmon was pretty great too. Charmoula Pan Roasted Alaskan Halibut Filet--crispy exterior and flaky interior. Served with the most complimentary eggplant ratatouille and balanced with bulgar pilaf. And if that isn't sybaritic enough for you, we had dessert. Peach-blackberry crisp with vanilla bean ice cream. Served hot. We left nothing in the ramekin. And the Pig in Mud came home with us: let's call it breakfast. more

My parents have been regular customers of Insalata's ever since it first opened 10 years ago. I have never been hugely impressed myself, but last night's pathetic display of what they call ""customer service"" compels me to write a negative review & warn future patrons. My parents both ordered the Grilled Filet of Beef which was served COLD, but of course the plates were piping hot. My dad complained to our waitress & had the food sent back to be grilled again. The manager then came over merely to introduce herself & said, ""I understand you already sent your food back twice."" Huh? No, lady - get your facts straight. She then proceeded to tell us in annoyance that the chef was re-heating the food and walked away. An APOLOGY would have been nice. Insalata's management needs to learn that the words ""I'm sorry"" can do wonders to appease an upset customer. Instead, the obvious ommitance of any attempt at an apology further infuriated us. After I had already eaten my meal, the manager served my parent's entrees without uttering a single word & also carelessly spilled my mom's onion rings all over the table. As we were getting ready to leave, my dad apologized to our waitress to let her know that we realize that none of this was her fault, her inane response was, ""I accept that, but I don't like being yelled at & I don't appreciate the abuse."" I love how a legitimate consumer complaint turns into ""abuse"" these days. The manager came after us as we were 2 steps from the door & said, ""I have to ask you to leave as we have had a horrible experience with you tonight."" How laughable. The host boy also had to butt in & throw in his 2 cents. The night was just getting better by the second. I can understand that meal preparation can inevitably go wrong on occasion, but what differentiates a well-run restaurant from a badly run restaurant is how well they deal with a complaint. Insalata's fails miserably. We will never return to this restaurant, nor recommend it again. Cons: Incompetent and exceptionally rude manager, waitress, and host boy more

I moved to Marin four years ago and I know how hard it can be to find the kind of quality restaurants the city has to offer. From the moment I arrived at Insalatas, I knew I had found a unique treasure. When you arrive you can enjoy a drink at their full bar, or select one of their specialty drinks from their menu once seated at your table. The waiter we had was patient and informative and the food was delightful! I now save myself the drive into the city on a Friday night and head to Insalatas instead. more

We were following the hostess to our table and when we reached the table and started to sit down, she was told by the server that the party behind us really needed the table! So we were redirected to a terrible table near the door and everyone in the dining room was looking at us. It was very unprofessional to say the least. Our waiter had an attitude and we were clearly at the bottom of his list of importance. Whoever those people were who got our table- they got all the good service too and the rest of the people in that server's station were neglected. The steak was cold and the food in general was over-priced. This restaurant needs to sharpen their attitude and flavor. I would never go back. more
