I hate grocery shopping. As a result, I've been on a constant search for a more "pleasant" grocery shopping experience for many years. I've decided that Ingles on the east end of Morristown, in the former Sky City shopping center, is about as good as it gets in this town.
The meat is good. Sales in this department are great. All items are on sale at least once a month, so it makes it easy to stock up. The meat is also fresh and the butchers are always willing to help. They can even prepare special cuts for you. They don't offer a lot of specialized meats, like marinated chicken or pre-stuffed pork chops. And the seafood section is lacking. Overall, though, for stocking your family's fridge at affordable prices, this is a good place.
I'm most impressed by the store's produce. It's among the best in town. Ingles east carries what is considered to be exotic fruit around here...papayas, star fruit, etc. Melons are always good. Squash can usually be had for 79 cents/pound.
This store is always clean and always has helpful staff. If you are disabled, usually a bag boy will accompany you through the store without even a request. Bag boys still offer to take your order to the car. The store is always clean. The weekly sales are great once you get in the pattern. The store also doubles coupons. Sometimes, the sale prices on paper products and cleaning supplies are competitive with Wal-Mart. Plus, the store is always well-staffed with cashiers, so lines move quickly. If you're just getting a few items, use the self-check and you'll be in and out in no time.
