When you first get to this restaurant it may appear shady from the outside. Don't let its appearance mislead you. From the moment you come in you are treated like family. The appetizers do look inexpensive, but it turns out to be expensive. One appetizer normally is enough for one person, but is pricey and bland. The Indian specialty naan bread was a little bit burnt and had little to no flavor. The best part of the menu are the entrees. A wide variety of authentic Indian entrees are available. I personally loved the ""chicken josh"". This dish has great yogurt based curry with the perfect spice at the end. My friends had other dishes which they were also pleased with. I recommend this restaurant for anyone who is looking for a Indian restaurant with great customer service and food. For first-timers don't be intimidated by the outside, the overall quality of the food is great. The first time I came here, I was delighted to see that it was voted the Twin Cities' Best (note display in entryway), but the service was very good - attentive, polite. And they use real linens, folks. The first time I had the Chicken Shahi Korma - chicken in a yogurt sauce with golden raisins, goat cheese, cashews - I just about wet my pants. I returned the next three days and ordered the same dish. Khir is a wonderful, light dessert as well, and always have some onion Naan! My husband enjoys the Chicken Josh, but all of their Tandoori dishes are exuisite, and the meats are always moist. Great value for any special occasion - a real treaure in an unassuming package. This is a great place for Indian food and just dining out overall. I HIGHLY recommend it! As another reviewer said, do not be swayed by the poor location/building...it really is a great place! We go to India palace every weekend. The service is excellent and friendly. The people are very nice to you. The food is outstanding. Onion Bhajias (appetizers) are excellent. Dal Makhani, and Chicken Josh are our favourites entrees, and for dessert you gotta have their Gulab Jamuns. They are the best I have had. They match up with the ones my Grandma makes. We have been to many Indian Res. in the US and abroad - we have been to a few in San Fran., Hollywood, LA, boston etc and the best tasting food and value is by far at India Palace. Infact the the supposed best Indian Res. in hollywood that the stars rave about was about the most dissapointing place we have every been to. Courteous, prompt wait staff. Food that never disappoints. And, prices that are quite reasonable. My friend and I go here regularly for a ""fix"" of a couple dishes that we CRAVE and just can't find anywhere else or replicate at home. Was going for dinner with some friends who had never tasted Indian food but were curious about it. We lost our way enroute and I wondered if a restaurant so difficult to find would be popular, but surprise surprise! It was a weekday night and the place was packed! My friends loved the food and I think the mint chutney they serve with appetizers is divine! Definitely a must-go place! Simply the best Indian food I've found in the Twin Cities. This is actually my favorite restaurant in the area (regardless of cuisine). Don't judge the book by its cover (the building used to house a ""Happy Chef""). The food is fantastic. more
