They treat customers terribly! Also, their stylists go for smoke breaks while your hair is drying and then come back and set your hair... disgusting!!

I only get my hair cut and colored here. I love the atmosphere of IMAGO. The ladies are friendly and not stuffy. I have for 30 something years not been able to find someone who knew what to do with my hair. I used to hate curly hair. Now I know that I have beautiful curls. The products are what bring my curls out, and the coloring in my hair appears so natural people do not believe it is not my real color! Every time I come out of IMAGO I feel like a new woman! This is a 5 star salon. more

Wonderful salon! MaryJo was the best! She worked with me to find the perfect haircut and I can honestly say that I received the best haircut of my life! The other staff members were helpful and gave me really helpful tips. I have straight hair and I recommend Imago for any hair type. more

Not the best at all....... 10/13/2011

This place located in the Fan off West Main is definitely NOT the best place for naturally curly hair. I made my appointment for the very first time, they rescheduled twice. I had to be proactive myself about making sure they were going to be there? ODD. It is very very small, so you have to squeeze into the rooms which are overfilled. The owner Mary Jo seems stressed and talks way too fast and too much. She cut my hair dry, and it was lopsided and not shaped at all. You are pushed through the little maze quickly, and it is stressed. Not to mention, I had my work attire on which is very professional, and no cover is used. I had hair all over my suit and clothes???? STRANGE. And by the way, VERY OVERPRICED for this lack of talent. They they push some products which did not work at all for me. When I called to get the haircut corrected, Mary Jo seems not interested and actually replys, ""well, I do not want to inconvenience my clients with appointments"". She has no interest in correcting her work or making things right. Not a place I would ever recommend for anyone no matter what style of hair. And the claim of naturally curly specialist is definitely not an established right. YY SALON just down the block corrected the entire haircut and IS full of talented polite people! more

Jessica is awesome-I love everyone there and this is the first time in my 60 years I don't look awful trying to be a straight hair girl - Jessica LISTENS and has great confidence she will NOT turn you into a freak! Wonderful color and fun, curly cut and this is the very first review I have ever written! Jessica has me for a very long time! more

A Curly Girl Oasis .. right here in RICHMOND 7/26/2011

As a curly girl I know about the awful salon experiences we are subjected to most of the time. We all know the stylist that decides to give you layers.. ( HORRIBLE IDEA) when you have soo much volume its overhwleming... or the stylist who simply wants to give you a chemical treatment to straighten your hair.. and then it doesn't work... We have all spent countless hours and lots of $$$ first for the stylist that doesn't know what they are doing and then more $$ to correct what they have done! Once we find a stylist that knows our hair we cling to them for dear life... I have found certain individuals that have been good with my hair but never someone who truly knows all about the complexities of curly hair.... until now... The IMAGO salon team especially my stylist...Mary Munden :) I am new to the Richmond area and I had been hooked onto the Deva Curl products (amazing ) before moving here. Once here I googled deva curl salon in richmond VA and IMAGO came up. I decided to give them a try and now I will NEVER GO ANYWHERE ELSE! I thought I was above most curly girls knowing the Deva but my lovely stylist Mary Munden opened my eyes to so much more! I used to not embrace my curls because I didn't know what to do with all of them! Now I love my curls! IMAGO is a great salon with a great staff and great services. Since it is such a popular place they seem to always be busy,but they are always attentive to their customers and provide EVERYONE with a quality hair experience. They take their time with each curly or straight cut to give their customers what they want...who can complain about that! more

Best Hair Cut! and no stress on the sale 7/18/2011

As with any curly haired individual knows, finding the right stylist is harder than finding the right person to marry. I have had my fair share of horrible hair cuts, where I leave with a big frizzy mess and the stylist is sooo happy with the job they did (ARE THEY BLIND). I have had the big poof, I have had the dreaded triangle from hell down my back, I came close to having a mullet with bangs that went wrong. So finding a new stylist is very stressful because you never know what you are getting. \r \r I recently went to Imago salon for the 1st time. I had a hairdresser I trusted and who did a wonderful job at another salon, but I she was the only one at the salon who knew how to cut curly hair and that worried me that if she left, then I would have no one. I have been converted 4/8/2011

I honestly hate getting my haircut, because of so many butcher jobs I have had. I am mixed in heritage and my hair texture is very fine and curly, I also have tons of hair! I read other reviews and booked an appointment, and it was the best thing I could have ever done for my hair! The staff was friendly and extremely approachable. Jessica, my stylist was super engaging and awesome. She is also a very informative stylist, she can tell you just about everything there is to know about curly hair, from everyday maintenance to little tricks to keep your hair looking amazing. I never felt more impressed then when she completely revamped my hair! I wanted to kiss myself in the mirror my hair looked so awesome! Not only are the stylist great but the hair products are to die for. I have now switched all my products to water based and my hair is starting to look and feel amazing. I suggest if you are in the richmond area and need a holy orgasm hair experience you book an appointment right now! You will not regret it! more

Fabulous haircuts 10/19/2010

I stumbled upon an article on Imago Salon last year when they were featured in Elle Magazine as one of the top 100 salons. Mary Jo immediately struck me as a pretty incredible stylist and owner who is focused on giving her clients the best service and educating them on hair care so we look our best in between visits. I've never had my hair cut dry, and was amazed at how much better this technique was ~ just get out of the shower and go and looks great! So all in all I have really loved my hair cuts! I don't usually color my hair, and did have a little ""glitch"" late this summer. But Mary Jo was very patient in working to make it better ~ which to me is the true sign of a professional as there will always be times when things don't go quite right. So the moral of the story is I would NEVER have gone back had I not been impressed with her skills ~ and she's just a really great person to boot! Last week I walked out with a FABULOUS new shorter, fun ""do"" ~ and have my appointments booked through February so I'm sure to get on Mary Jo's calendar! Best Hair Cut/Color/Products EVER! 9/17/2010

Ok, I seriously thought I knew everything I needed to know about curly hair. I knew the good products, not to blow dry, not to brush, etc. etc. etc. I was SCHOOLED! But in a good way. May hair looks the best it EVER has and that's due to Jessica. I even left a really good stylist for her...sh! Don't tell! I get so many compliments on my cut. Had her color it as well and feel super sassy again. And the products? OH MY! The best ever and cheaper than what I was even using before for even MORE product and it's BETTER! See my girl Jessica. She's DA BOMB! more

Always Excellent Cut and Color!!!! 4/17/2010

I found Mary Jo and Imago Salon 10 years ago. I have been more pleased with my cut and color each year. Mary Jo and her great staff are often going to NY to undergo training in the the latest cut design and color techniques. Mary Jo always explains what she is doing and why..especially if I suggest something that will not work for my face shape or hair texture. Best Haircut EVER 12/17/2009

I went to Shae because I wanted a total transformation, and she gave me EXACTLY what I wanted. I've been to several great stylists across the country, so I am pretty hard to please. It took being deeply disappointed in a few stylists before I found her, and I will never go to another stylist as long as I'm in Richmond. She took her time and seemed like an artist at work while she did my cut. I had a few things I wanted her to compensate for (hairline and the back of my head is flat), and she handled it with ease where others have failed miserably. She is quite obviously extremely talented, and I would recommend her to anyone I love!! Pros: I got more than I could have ever hoped! Cons: None. more

I see Casey at Imago and my hair has never looked better…not to mention how soft and silky it feels! Casey listens to what I want and actually hears me – she is simply the best at what she does. \r \r Mary Jo (the owner) is committed to customer service and has created a fun atmosphere in a very professional salon. My New Salon!!! 12/1/2009

Imago came recommended to me by one of Richmond's elite bartenders that always has the most fabulous hair! I walked in on a Friday afternoon with no appointment hoping I would be in luck of a highlight and cut... I was celebrating my birthday that night and wanted to look as good as I felt about that!! I was greeted with smiles and enthusiasm, I filled out their info. sheet and was greeted by my new stylist Shae! She took my ideas and the pics I had brought with me and rolled with them giving me great advice and her own touch. She did an icy blonde partial highlight, a toner rinse with a Kimberly Caldwell/ texturized shorter cut and styled it with a dryer, a flat iron and Davines Wonder Wax which took no time! She told me the cut we were going with would be easy to work with and take no time to style on my own... and you always like to believe that because stylist always have the magical touch that I never seem to find especially when I am running late for whatever buuuuuuut Shae was Totally Right!!! This may be the easiest hairstyle that only brings great complements from people that I never even expected them from and that always makes me feel SO Good!!!! I am Totally stoked to make my next appointment with Shae for my latest idea! Pros: Great Talent, Fair Prices, Great Atmosphere, Friendly Staff! more

No longer frizzy! 11/23/2009

I've stuggled with my curls my entire life and kept my hair short so I wouldn't have to deal with the frizz. I moved to Richmond eight years ago, and have tried countless salons. None of the stylislist I tried really knew how to cut and style curly hair. \r \r Then I was introduced to Imago Salon about a year ago and my curls have been transformed. My hair is longer than it's ever been and I have defined, soft, bouncy curls. I go back once a month to have my roots touched up, I've had highlights and other treatments and I have always been delighted with the results. I love the products the salon uses as they are all natural and developed for curly hair. All of the stylists know exactly which products you should use for your hair type. I learned so much about curly hair from these folks. I now wash my hair as if it was a fine cashmere sweater. \r \r All of the stylists are knowledgeable about all of the trends and continue to go for up-to-the-minute training in NYC. I usually go to Casey but would trust any of the stylists with my hair. If you have curly hair, you must try this salon. You will not be disappointed. Pros: They really know how to cut and treat curly hair. more

I Fly Down from Boston to get my Curls Cut HERE 10/30/2009

My boss years ago recommended that I go to MaryJo to get my hair cut. Since high school I had tried out a variety of salons: Christopher John (is that still around?), Salon del Sol, and Nesbit among others and they could NEVER cut my hair the way I wanted it to be cut, even though they claimed they could cut curly hair. BS. Until I discovered the Devachan Salon up in NYC...trucked on up on the Chinatown Express 1AM bus...real cheap-like cuz I knew the haircut was probably going to incredibly expensive...which it was $250. BUT it was AMAZiNG. FiNALLY I got the style I had always imagined. NOW the great thing is Mary Jo and everyone else are certified by this very salon!! But will cut your hair for a third of the price!\r \r I'm not sure why there are a couple of horrid reviews on here because I've only ever had a great experience at IMAGO Salon. and I love the pups if they are still there!! \r \r And Casey, is great with color! (if she's still there...I was travelling abroad for the year.) And now I live in Boston. AND I will still fly down to get my hair cut at this marvelous salon. Mary Jo always does an INCREDiBLE job on my hair. I don't know what I would do without her. more
