Illegal Pete's is the place for breakfast 6/8/2010

I love stopping in here for a quick breakfast once I get off the Express bus. It's right across from the Market Street RTD station. \r \r Love the tacos and breakfast burritos. \r \r One of these days, I'm going to stay later and visit for Happy Hour, and try a burrito. Pros: Fast, cheap, good Cons: Not the cleanest more

Great food, quick 9/11/2009

Are you in need of a quick Mexican fix, or a completely and totally filling meal on a budget? It's completely worth a trip to Pete's then. Their fast service will get you out the door (or to the table, at least) quickly and leave you sated. Illegal Pete's offers pretty much the best fast-casual burritos, if not the best all around, in town. Certainly the best fish burritos -- get the Big Fish. Great queso dip too. On top of that, they serve Hazed and Infused, run a decent happy hour, and know how to make a margarita fresh. Don't be intimidated by lines, as the longest wait is typically about five-six minutes, and that's if they're out the door. The only downside is the musical choices can be a bit... poor and loud enough to discourage conversation at times. Pros: Best burritos, great margaritas, fast Cons: Often loud, crowded more

Best burritos ever 12/16/2008

Try a potato burrito, you will not be let down. I love Illegal Pete's entirely too much, but don't take my word for it, try it yourself. Pros: Sevice, Burrittos, Cons: Nada more

The place for a burrito and a beer! 10/7/2008

I've only been to the one off of County lIne and Yosemite. The staff is amazing. Love how they mix up the ingredients in the burritos. The fish tacos are great and so are the steak burrito bowls. Bartenders work hard and they play good music. Sometimes gets a little crowded during happy hour, but thats just cuz there are decent happy hour specials on drinks. You can get complimentary chips and salsa too! Pros: Food and drinks. Cons: Can't think of any. more

mmmmmmmm 12/1/2007

Yes, the burrito ""purists"" probably aren't comfortable with some of the creative options here, but really, when it's this darn tasty I don't see how anyone can complain. The Big Fish with fajita veggies rocks my world; I don't know how they make the fish so ridiculously moist and crispy at the same time (I'm sure it involves a lot of frying, so maybe I'm better not knowing details). MmmmmmmmmPete's. more

Food served fast and fresh 11/20/2006

I have been a devoted Chipolte fan for a while, but Illegal Pete's have a few things that are better. The 4 things that make this place stand out are 1) They mix up the ingredients in the burrito before they roll it up and serve it. 2) If you order a burrito bowl, you get a bag of chips or tortilla and it does not cost extra 3) The chips are a superior quality and lighter 4) There is a trivia question for a free drink. The prices are the same and the food quality is pretty much the same, but I have been choosing Illegal Pete's more frequently than Chipolte. more

Better than Chipotle? 9/8/2006

Someone recommended this place as a superior alternative to Chipotle. After reading several\r reviews repeating that sentiment, I decided to check these guys out. Supposedly the \r ingredients are fresher, the portions larger, and the salsa spicier. I ordered a shredded beef \r burrito with rice, sour cream, cheese, their hottest salsa and no beans. While the burrito was \r somewhat palatable, they in no way compare to those offered at Chipotle. The shredded beef \r was cold and largely devoid of seasoning and their ""hottest"" salsa definitely lacked spice. The \r cilantro-lime rice was too light on the cilantro, too heavy on the lime and served only to make \r my burrito overly sour and citrusy. The portions were weak to say the least. I've never finished \r a Chipotle burrito with anything less than a full stomach, but this burrito left me wanting more, \r and not in a good way. I don't know if things have changed or if I just showed up on a bad day, \r but I think I'll stick with Chipotle in the future. Pros: Cheap, nice setting, quick service Cons: Cold, bland ingredients; salsa lacked spice more

They mix the ingredients! 7/6/2006

Tired of getting a mouth full of rice at the other guys burrito shops? Give Illegal Pete's a try, where they mix the ingredients so you get all the tastes in one mouth full. I recommend the fish burrito. Pros: mix ingredients more

i'm addicted to illegal petes veggie burritos! 4/14/2006

Illegal Petes has great burritos for a decent price. Try their corn salsa!!! I also love their outdoor patio area. It's a nice place to relax with friends and have a few beers. Pros: great burritos, friendly service, outdoor patio Cons: bright lights inside more

the colorado original, the best 5/14/2005

I used to go to the original Illegal Pete's in Boulder in the 90's-- long before Chipotle or Qdoba came on the scene. There is 10x the variety on the menu (great fish tacos, more vegetarian options, excellent green chile) than any other burrito place. The food is so fresh and tastes real-- not like fast food. Plus, they mix your food together in the burrito before wrapping it. Great atmosphere, excellent food, plus a full bar. So much better than any of the chains on the scene!!! more

Not really that good, overrated. 3/27/2005

The food is okay, and is really not the flavorful. On multiple times I've ordered the BIg Potato and have ended up with fish in my burrito! Salsas are boring, and the food is overall bland. They should stop hiring post college hipsters who feel like they are better than everyone. Cons: Parking, Ambience, Bar more

Good food. Lotsa hotties. 3/10/2005

The food tastes better than Chipotle. I do like the food, but the real attraction is the staff and customers. Delicious. The interior and ID offer the feeling of being in trendy Mexican-themed industrial loft. Great taco joint. Pros: Hotties, Food, Trendy interior Cons: Service, Attitude, Reminded I'm over 23 more

Forget the others! 8/1/2003

They certainly weren't the first on the scene, but they outshine the ""big burrito"" chains without a doubt! Their beef and chicken are outstanding and the the rest of their ingredients are a lot more varied! As a tip, check out their toppings at the end... there's definitely more than sour cream and cheese that you can add for a whole new taste! Pros: Sidewalk patio, great happy hour, Really nice staff more

cool with me 10/26/2002
