Delicious Italian Fare in a great ambiance 5/4/2009

Everything I've ever tried at this place is delicious: Pasta, risotto, salad...Their due ravioli is yummy, but hands down my favorite thing there is the entree-sized Scallop and Prawn Caesar Salad...Perfectly seared scallops, mouth-watering dressing, and polenta croutons. ll Davide San Rafael's Best 9/16/2008

My husband and I go to the San Rafael theatre often. Having past Il Davide on our way from the parking lot, we saw the many awards and decided to give it a try. We found everything to be very well done. Pros: Mostly all well done Cons: Parking lot can be full and street parking difficult in the daytime, nights OK more

Reliable tasty food 12/30/2006

We eat at Il DAvide a lot. It is the closest good restaurant to our home in eastern San Rafael. I can always get a good piece of fish perfectly prepared with veggies, and my husband, the pasta lover, says their pasta, especially torttelini and ravioli, is always good. Desserts are very good, service is very good, I've rarely had a complaint, and we have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world. I will grant you that the food may not be exciting or innovative, and the presentation may not be trendy, though it's always attractive and care is obviously given, but it's reliably very good food. Not exactly recommending the place... 11/20/2006

Hey, I like the wines here, what can I say. Good selection, fair markup. Terrible glasses, unfortunately. The food is a bit heavy and not all that creative but it's nice to sit outside after a long ride on the trails. Very nice servers. Pros: One of few San Rafael restaurants with outside seating more

Always great 10/27/2002

If they have grilled fish salad - order it. Perfect fried calamari. Pastas are excellent, any fish dish is very good. I've been here 4 times. Great wines and iced tea. Bumped into one of the owners once at the bar - a bit snooty, couldn't be bothered with me when I said how much I always enjoy my meals there - I guess because I'm no longer a young hottie, but he's not either :) Aside from that this place won't let you down, friends will be very happy you turned them on to it. Generally good Northern Italian foods with some interesting dishes like the fresh fried calamari caesar salad and homemade raviolis with interesting, unusual ingredients. The interior needs freshening up - a bit dated and worn. A wonderful bartender and sommelier who has great selections by the glass and unusual California varietals by the bottle. more
