Ok so... I know you are all going to think that I'm saying this just to support my place of employment but, hear me out! I work at IKEA in the living room department. I just wanted to shout out that many of our sofas actually have 10 year warranties on them. Our IKEA Stockholm collection has a 25 YEAR WARRANTY. 25 years!!!! That's crazy! Our mattresses even have a 25 year warranty, as well as some of our kitchen products. I know IKEA is all about making products at the cheapest price we can, but we do have good, quality furniture pieces (I'm talking solid wood, not ALL of our pieces are made of particleboard! :-D) Granted, if you want cheap furniture that isn't the greatest quality, you can always find that, because we're trying to appeal to people with every kind of budget, so we do have a lot of cheap stuff. But, you can find some really nice pieces that are also very well made and still affordable! Ok, I'm done with my rant, and hope to see you soon at IKEA! more

Consider Ikea. I have never even considered a major DIY project like that, but consumer reports ranked Ikea as second best for kitchens. (the first best was not remotely affordable). My friends just put in an IKEA kitchen (installed by a contractor) and they love it. more

Hell on Earth. I love the IDEA of IKEA as much as the next person. They are geniuses there. Seriously, I love wandering around their uber-hip, creative life-sized doll houses...and their food is rich and buttery...and kids can play for an hour (though big kids have been banned from the ball court)...BUT... we are FOOLS to think that spending $3.00 plus on a gallon of gas to drive to Auburn (assuming you live in Seattle...or Oregon) = 1 hour min., wander in and out of the displays oooing and ahhing = 1.5 hours min., retrieving every damn piece of particle board and tiny screw for every item you want (careful not to drop on your foot) = 1 hour min., checking out (30 min. if you're lucky), stuffing the heavy Wasa cracker material into your car in a very negligible and unsafe way (scratching and denting as you go) = 30 min., driving back home tired and stressed (but probably not hungry since you bought the discount softserve and latte on the way out) = 1 hour, unpacking and then ASSEMBLING = 5 hours IF you have an engineering degree. That's ten and a half hours, folks. I don't know about you...but my time is worth more than that. Next time I'm going to Dania where the furniture is just as bad but you can get purchase it and have it delivered without having to make a field trip out of the event. more

cheap stuff.. i would never buy furniture from there. it will fall apart within a year. love the style of things but with style should be quality ... more

Alright, so as stated there are so many places to shop online. So the trick is to find somewhere where there are people actively competing with each other to drive down prices, hence Ebay. There's always that fear in the back of my head that the deal will be too good to be true, but if you shop smart, you'll likely come out on top. Somethings that you can do to protect yourself are researching the ratings that each seller receives, and also finding out how many sales the person has made. I only shop from people who have all, or an overwhelming majority of good ratings, and those who have been selling for a while. I searched a lot of different internet sites when looking for my wedding favors, and saved a significant amount of money purchasing through Ebay. If you are looking for a bargain in a store, try Ikea. They carry many different items for you to outfit your home, which range from sofas, to bureaus, to beds, bowls, and even lawn furniture. One of the nice things about Ikea for the design challenged (like me) are the different sample rooms they have. So if you struggle matching your furniture, you can just use their design. Also, where else can you find a sofa for under $200? One thing to keep in mind is to remember that the prices are low for a reason. I wouldn't go here if you are looking for something to last. However, this is definitely the place to go if you need a starter set. more

It's always a treat to go to IKEA. They have low-cost furniture which is good quality for the price. There are also lots of knick knacks and odds and ends to look at. I found the prettiest embroidered pillow there last time. I like how they've changed the main parking garage to all disabled spots and "family parking" spots. Especially since I have two little ones and it's hard to navigate them through the parking lot to the store sometimes. Look for big sales like "tax free" day. I bought a sofa and two slipcovers at the last one and saved somewhere around $150. more

No child could be unhappy in IKEA's play area wonderworld...I would imagine, see, I've never taken my child in! I know leaving your kids there for an hour sounds like heaven for those with kids they can't afford to get a nanny for, but just know one thing - no one under 3 years old who isn't potty trained! I don't really know why...I mean, I understand the training issue, but come on! Just thought you should know before you think you're going to have any childless wondering time to yourself. more

That said.. Ikea seems to be the best value/fit for those starting out in a new apartment/house/or dorm. They offer truly unique options that look nice aesthetically but the downfall is they items are pretty disposable. They just don't last and are easily broken. The worst gamble is that there has been more than one time that I have bought something and ended up discovering I was missing pieces or messed up the assembly badly. The one item I'm intrigued myself about are their kitchen makeovers. They do look pretty amazing and I have heard that they are incredibly affordable. I would like to know if anyone has had regrets going that route... (?) more

You can't beat Ikea for the quality you get for the price. When I first moved out here, I too tried to get furniture elsewhere because I didn't realize, but all of the non-Ikea stuff I got was MUCH more difficult and cumbersome to assemble, it looked cheaper, and has deteriorated more quickly. If your highest priority is quality for cheap, then Ikea is really the only place to go. If you have something particular in mind and are willing to pay a little more, as it sounds you do since you said nothing was in stock, then I guess it would be worth checking out some other furniture stores. Overall though, if you are just looking for a bed or a kitchen table or something and are strapped for cash, Ikea is the ticket! more

You can't go wrong with IKEA if you are looking for some basic good furniture. For the price you are paying you are getting some good stuff. more

Great for kids, great for kids who like to destroy things, and great for good stuff that's priced inexpensively. Over the years I've found their one-off items that they occasionally offer. Those are the items that they don't have in the catalog, that they buy in small quantity to test out their suppliers. GREAT unusual stuff, even for Ikea standards. People are surprised when I tell them that almost all of my furniture and home dec items come from Ikea (and one wool Persian rug from Iraq!). My kids love it, I love it, and I even have the Ingmar bobblehead, I'm such an Ikea junkie. PS - AS-IS section rocks! Be sure to check it out - GREAT deals on returned items! more

Ikea opened up a few years ago in my neck of the woods and I have been a loyal customer since then. Although their furniture is NOT of the highest quality, if you have pets and kids like myself, your furniture is going to get trashed anyways, so why not spend $70 on a coffee table instead of $200? I really like the fact that you can find something that fits every style. I decorate with antiques and my home has a cozy style to it, Ikea has a line called Leksvik that matches my home perfectly – we have their coffee table and bookshelves. If you decorate in ultra-modern, they have a lot for you too! I highly recommend Ikea, but don’t go in expecting the top of the line…you’ll be disappointed. more

It’s like being a rat in a maze. The store is a giant circle or oval or spiral—I can’t exactly figure it out. You don’t have to follow the path, but it helps reduce the “we’ve already been through this part” routine that you’ll find yourself in if you do stray from the path. Neat things that is very European and somewhat minimalist. Fun things. Always a crowd. Don’t go on Weekends without valium. You either love this store or you hate it. I happen to love it and think that every city should be required to have an Ikea. There is furniture and accessories there for every budget and style. All the furniture comes flat so you can pretty much take everything home with you (provided you have a large enough car). We’ve spent several hundred dollars on beds, chairs, couches, entertainment centers, and computer desks and we move often as well, and our Ikea furniture certainly has stood the test of time. Of course, if you only buy the cheap stuff, you may find that it falls apart much more easily, but spend a few bucks more and get the better stuff and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Stop by the café and get some Swedish meatballs before you go. Mmmm….. more

This place is huge with all kinds of furniture. I am thankful for the restaurant in the middle so you can re-energize to make it through the remaining part of the store. Prices are great plus kids 10 and under get to play in the play area for 1 hour for FREE. 1 hour of child free shopping will please anyone. Perfect place to for decorating the home with great fashion at a good price. more

IKEA is a great store for a family outing. The kids (if potty trained and older than 2) can play in the ball room and play area, there are many rooms of furniture to browse through, the prices are inexpensive, and every can enjoy a meatball lunch when you're done shopping. You will probably find something you like, although the IKEA "style" of furniture may not be to your taste. Don't go if you don't like crowds; it gets very busy, especially on weekends! more

THIS IS IN RENTON, IT'S A GOOD FURNITURE STORE THAT IS FAIRLY PRICED.... BUT THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT YOU HAVE TO PUT YOUR FURNITURE TOGETHER YOURSELF...YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR OWN TOOL KIT AND A HANDYMAN TYPE OF SKILL WHEN YOU BUY STUFF FROM IKEA. IKEA DOES HAVE NICE HOME BELONGINGS AND PRICED FAIRLY. more

we have a bed and frame from there- i recently painted the pine frame a dark brown which was a huge improvement. we also have the kind of mattress which is just one layer- the box spring part is built in. i think it is super comfortable and very easy to move. the bed frame goes together with an allen wrench and is durable and well supported. more
