Best

a little warm in July to eat outside comfortably, but as the sun set a nice breeze came up, so, overall, a pleasant experience and the food was good. Friendly staff, as well! Wort...

Worst

I'm surprised at the few reviews this place has. This place has been a land mark for over 40 years. Unfortunately, that's all it is anymore. We don't know how they stay open wit...

Great libations. . . disappointing food 8/21/2004

We've been to the Hurricane a few times and the view of the sunset from the roof is certainly incredible. The margaritas are very good but you could spend your child's college fund on drinks waiting for the sunset. We only actually ate there once, and were highly disappointed with our dinners - Very bland. And definitely not worth what you pay for it. Will go back for the rooftop sunset but will dine somewhere else first. Pros: Sunset view Cons: , Overpriced more

Hurricane - Time to change the staff 7/10/2004

We have dinned at Hurricane's three times in the past year. Each time we were extremely dissapointed. Not only is food well below average quality, the service couldn't be any worse. The only things that keep the wait list full are 1) the beautiful sunset and 2) pure ignorance of those who dine there. With so many different places to eat in St Pete, and many with an outstanding view of the sunset, I fail to understand why any one would choose to throw their money away at the Hurricane. Truly the worst of the worst! Pros: Views Cons: , Food, Picnic Tables more

a tampa bay tradition 3/27/2004

Hello, being a former resident of Largo i always enjoyed your restaurant and now when i am on vacation in the area i always stop for lunch or a shirt to buy and the sunsets and nightlife are great. A loyal and faithful customer from the George Kall. Pros: good food, great nightlife, good merchandise Cons: , crowded more

Very disappointed 8/16/2003

I think Baybabe said it best! The Hurricane is not what is used to be. Pros: good location Cons: no service, terrible food, warm beer more

Nice Breeze 6/3/2003

We very much enjoyed our food, drink, and dining outside was truely relaxing. Will definitely go back when in St. Petersburg. Pros: food, atmosphere, drinks more

Don't blow your dough at the Hurricane 9/22/2002

The food is not good and the service is even worse. For what you are paying I would expect a much higher quality meal. I believe this place is living on its reputation from years ago when it was actually decent. Cons: Bad Service, Mediocre Food, Expensive more

disappointed 7/19/2002

You would think that anyone who had, on their on line menu wine list, Rothschild would be a fine dining experience. What it turned out to be was a glorified fast food ordeal. Where your drink is served in a plastic glass. Pros: food Cons: atmosphere, service, decor more

Partying Passagrille Style 6/30/2002

woo-woo is the disco sound, each Wednesday on disco night. Or is rock more your speed? Every night the Hurricane is rockin on out overlooking beautiful Tampa Bay. more

Terrible 6/12/2002

There is only one word I can use to describe The Hurricane, and that is terrible. First off, they "ran out" of their famous grouper sandwich, but stated that you can have the mahi mahi for the same price. As for the service, well there was no service. After asking 3 different servers for ice water and not receiving any. I gave up. Don't waste your time or your money on this dump. more

  • In Short
Overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, this sprawling restaurant features stunning sunset views, best experienced from the rooftop deck. The menu is crammed with a variety of seafood, but the Hurricane is known for its grouper--breaded, fried, grilled, blackened or broiled. Snow crab, Maryland-style crab cakes, shrimp, scallops, fish and steaks are also available. An extensive selection of specialty drinks include the Bakua Freeze, a riff on the pina colada with banana and Kahlua.
