It's not just for dipping carrots anymore! 1/12/2006

If you thought that humus was a condiment, or a snack, or a dip, beware - it can be, in fact, a meal. Yes, at Hummus Place, a reasonably new establishment in the heart of Saint Marx and alphabet city, you can be served a dinner of hummus. If you order hummus (which is likely since that is all that's on the menu) you'll receive a teeny plate of pickles and a serving size bowl of hummus with a side of pita. It's good, but man...you can't eat too much of that. I recommend bringing a friend! more

REAL hummus 8/20/2005

Hummus, as served in most "middle eastern" restaurants in Manhattan, is awful. One of the very few exceptions is this Israeli hole in the wall in the East Village. Real hummus experts will tell you that only the Lebanese and Israelis can make this stuff right, and the latter variety is rendered with perfect authenticty here. more

This is the real stuff 8/18/2005

As the name suggests, this place is all about hummus. And this is the real stuff! Last time I was there the hummus came with fluffy warm pita bread, but sometimes they don't have it. Although the pita makes a big difference, the hummus stands on it's own. A small Israeli salad and one order of hummus should make a nice light meal for two. One hummus order per person is slightly over the top even for hummus lovers. more
