Humane Society of South Mississippi

I will never adopt another animal from this place again. I went there two weeks ago to adopt a supposedly healthy kitten. I got home with said, healthy cat only to realize a few days later that there was something very wrong with the poor guy. In one week I have spent over $200.00 in vet bills and medication to treat this animal. I love him very much and refuse to leave his side. The pet insurance they "provide" comes with stipulations they do not make you aware of. You MUST provide your email address to get it. They conveniently left that factor out when I politely declined giving an email address. It breaks my heart already to see pictures of all the animals I cannot provide a good home for. Well not that my vet suggested I get the forms for the pet insurance, the shelter informed me that you have to provide an email address and there is NO WAY to get the insurance 3 days after you decline to give it. Now, I have been stuck with all the vet bills for the apparently healthy cat that came home with a respiratory infection, tapeworm, and coccidia. Adopt at your own risk. This shelter doesn't take responsibility. (I just want to add that I know the risks when adopting an animal. However when the shelter deems the animal healthy, as I go there get a healthy pet, I dont expect to get home and with in a week to have over $200.00 worth of vet bills. I love the little guy already or I would have just taken him back, however I am not that type of person. I am meeting my responsibilities by loving the little guy and taking care of his medical issues. I am more upset at the lack of honesty on this shelters part.) more

The Humane Society is not nearly as bad as these people make it sound. A little thought...if you loved your dog that much why would you tie it up outside?! That's just cruel in itself! And the sheer amount of animals that come to the Humane Society is astonishing. They rely on donations alone to feed and care for the animals. There are just too many dumb and cruel animal owners out there that don't pay attention to their animals and therefore they end up at the pound. THEY DONT HAVE ROOM TO SAVE EVERY ANIMAL! It's impossible. And it also shows how little you care for your pet that you wouldn't just pay the minor amount and take your dog right home, you left it there! And if you couldn't afford that amount, then you shouldn't have animals to start with, they are expensive if properly taken care of, it's irresponsible and cruel. Sorry to the cat owner, it's unfortunate and it sounds like an accident or a mistake on the Vet's/Vet's team part. more

These greatly honored department of our state government........is a DAMN JOKE!!! They are more about killing animals than saving them. Our family dog broke off it's runner and someone called the pound. We went to get our dog the same day. We were told a price, when we got to the shelter the price had doubled in just under a hour. They were talking about having to kill dogs because the couldn't find homes for these loving animals. They wanted more money before letting our dog come home. Since our dog had not gotten snipped There would be a $50.00 extra fee. So we had to leave our dog there for a few days til we had some extra money. We went back 9 days later. To find to WORST NIGHTMARE had come true. That our loved family dog was DEAD. They told use only five days, well they knew our dog had a loving home. Our dog was more than a puppy but a part of our family and a partner to our other dog. Not to mention $1.100.00 dog. So this department is not worth the drool these dogs leave on there table of death. I wish nothing but the worst to the humane society of South Mississippi aka animal killers. So everyone out there in South Mississippi beware the assholes don't care the animals they are more worried about money. Hope they burn in HELL. more
