I too know Dr. Hui as a genuinely caring and thorough physician. She has been very responsive to me, though I do not see her frequently. Rita R.'s assessment seems unfair to me. An optimistic person may chuckle to lift spirits or in the face of strong emotions. I cannot imagine Dr. Hui doing that for any other reason. Her receptionist, by the way, has an very good command of English and anyone who has been visiting Dr. Hui's office for 3 years would know the real story there. I select my physicians carefully and I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Hui. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/4/2012

This is the second review (for anyone or any product) that I've ever written, but Dr. Hui's unprofessional behavior was so disappointing that I made time to write this review. \r \r My husband and I had been seeing Dr. Hui for about 3 years and were happy until one unexpected and very disappointing experience. My husband and I are both in our 30's and we are new parents to a 9 month old. We are relatively healthy people and in the past 3 years we saw Dr. Hui for minor things once or twice a year. But the last time I saw Dr. Hui was about 13 months ago, when I was about 6 or 7 months pregnant. I should also mention that we paid her office bills in full upon receiving them. \r \r A few weeks ago I was running out of a topical acne medication and called my pharmacy to refill it but they replied that the medication was not available from the manufacturer and they don't know when it will be. I immediately phoned Dr Hui's office and explained to her staff (who barely speaks English) the situation and asked that she please prescribe me something similar. The staff member called me back and said that Dr. Hui needs to see me because I have not been to the office in a full year. I explained that I had refills still remaining on the existing medication and that I feel healthy otherwise and there's no reason for me to see Dr. Hui at this time. I wasn't sure if the staff person understood what I was saying and asked her to ask Dr. Hui to call me back. Dr. Hui did not call me back. Over a period of 4 or 5 days I tried her office twice and she still did not return my call. I thought that maybe there was something wrong with her staff, that perhaps she wasn't getting my messages. So I decided to leave a vm on her cell phone number that is provided on her office voice mail. \r \r After about 6 hours of leaving the voice mail, Dr. Hui finally returned my call. She explained that she did receive my messages and that her office policy is that her patients must see her at least once a year, and that after 13 months of not seeing her I've become an ""inactive"" patient in her book. She would therefore not be able to help me unless I came to her office. I figured maybe she didn't understand the entire situation and I proceeded to explain to her that I'm 31 yrs. old, that I feel healthy and that the medication she prescribed to me last time I saw her was working well, that I still had refills for it but that I couldn't refill it only because the medicine manufacturer was experiencing issues. I added that I have a full time job and that I have a 9 month old and that I cannot take time off right now to see her. Her response was a chuckle followed by: ""good luck to you with your situation"". I was speechless.\r \r What I learned from this experience is that Dr. Hui needs her patients to pay her at least once a year otherwise she won't give them the time of day. Otherwise, she will not respond to you and she doesn't care about you. How disappointing and unsavory. My husband and I are looking for a new doctor. more
