Best In Memphis 8/2/2006

Nothing like a Huey burger, basket of fries a cold Busch longneck! I was born and raised in the Memphis area and consumed many of the mentioned products and stop at Hueys every time I'm in town. It's definitely the best burger in Memphis and the second best burger I've ever eaten. You'd have to go to Port of Call in New Orleans for a better burger more

Great burgers 8/1/2006

Really great burgers--always. Red beans and rice good too. Bottomless tea and soft drinks. Cute ambience, but the toothpicks in the ceilings are tacky--one fell in my plate once, and I asked for and got a replacement meal, but you hate to be on guard for falling toothpicks. Pros: Good food, fun atmosphere Cons: Those damn toothpicks more

I have lived in Memphis for 11 years and have been to all of the burger places. The burgers at Huey's are very good, but I wouldn't necessary say they are the best. The place is usually crowded and cramped, and the service is S-L-O-W. Toothpicks in a ceiling does not make a great burger!!! Pros: good burger Cons: slow service , crowded more

Huey burgers are so good that I asked my wife to marry me after I'd downed one. The 17 beers might have helped, too. Great music on Sundays, great burgers all the time, and a honest to god slice of Memphis culture. Be sure and try the tamales, too. more

Feel Good Food 7/14/2004

If your down and worried, don't worry Huey's is open late and near you. Of course, their are Huey's all over Memphis, but I have a special place in my heart for the Midtown Hueys and the Downtown one (closest to my apartment). Every Huey's has a friendly staff, cheap and tastey food. Also Huey's serves the coldest beer in Memphis (maybe). I always leave happier than when I walk through the door. One of the best in town 6/17/2004

A native Memphian, I currently live in Europe, and Huey's is one of the first places I visit whenever I return home. I have travelled extensively throughout the US and Europe, and I have never had a better burger anywhere! I sure do miss them when I am away, and I never miss a meal there when I return to my roots. The atmosphere is about as ""down-home"" Memphis as you can get! From the graffiti, written over the years on anything that stands still long enough to the toothpicks in the ceiling, it doesn't get anymore real than this, folks! Disappointing 6/10/2004

There was once a time when all the hype concerning Huey's was true. I can't say this is the case now. The service tends to be bad and the quality of the food has dropped off considerably. If you've never been, the novelty of shooting toothpicks into the ceiling with a straw may appeal to you, but there's not much else to recommend it. Do yourself a favor and try somewhere else. You'll get better quality food, service, and probably save some money too. Pros: Graffitti allowed. Cons: , Overrated. more

Why bother? 5/14/2004

When I moved to Memphis six years ago, I was told not to miss going to Huey's. Okay. Now I'm asking, ""Why?"" The food is almost palatable, but certainly nothing to crow about. Over priced for the quality of the meal. Pros: My 13 yr old likes it more

Bad Service 12/26/2003

Service at Hueys (all Memphis locations) is unbelievably bad. Two examples: 1) At the one on G'town road in Cordova - major breaking news story..people were going to restaurants just to watch the events on tv...employees wouldn't turn the tv on to what everyone wanted to see because ""only the manager can turn the tv"". Needless to say everyone left. 2) At the one in Midtown - A group of twelve unable to get Hueys to push tables together. ""It's against policy"". Once again, we left. I've eaten at Hueys twice in the last year and both times the food was awful. more

First the burgers and ambiance are great. But, the music is too loud. I dont get it. The place is set up as a restaurant/bar. It would be a great place to meet people. The only problem is you can't even hear the waiter take your order! Im going there tonight I love the place. But, I'm bringing earplugs. Go to Ernestine and Hazels. The smell of worsteshire will knock you down as you hit the door. A greasy masterpiece! Also, Dyers on Beale. what can you say about a place that uses grease that is close to 90 years old?? Bizarre...but better that a Big Kahuna burger. Right Samual L. Jackson? As to Huey's? Sold-out to the franchise bug a long time ago and by doing so, quality has suffered. There was a time though.... more

Huey's Overrated 1/8/2003

After searching through the city of Memphis for the best burger, I would have to say that Huey's does not even deserve a spot on the top ten list. This burger is not far from something you can buy at Applebee's--charred outside, soft inside, like the cooks have no idea how to evenly cook a burger. Everyone needs to stop going to Huey's and find a better place. more
