Worst jail in NJ 12/18/2010

I've been locked up in this jail and it's not like a damn country club!!! They changed the phone systems; some guys were there 2-3 weeks before they made one phone call!!!!! Yeah, you can watch tv, but it's sooo loud on the tiers that you can't ever hear a word!!! Once you get to General Population it's not too bad, but it can take two weeks to get on that tier!!! In holding and D-100 there are 4 grown men in a cell the size of a closet; most imates are detoxing on drugs to the point where their up all night crapping and throwing up!!!! You have to live in these conditions with no toliet paper, bed bug infested matts and no pillows!!! You could be there months with only one uniform, one pair of underwear, and one pair of socks!!!! You eat when you want too; in fact, most inmates are hungry all day everyday!!!! There isn't any lockers like some people assume; if you are lucky enough to have money in your account to go to the store, you better watch your bag 24/7!!! Because if it's not someone of the tier; it's your bunky that is stealing your food!!! It is very dangerous is this jail, because at least 85% of the inmates are in gangs or gang affiliated!!! Also, some idiot people commented on the so called ""free healthcare."" That's bull, you could summit 20 to 30 slips to see the docter to get help and if they ever see you at all, by then your not even sick anymore.... You just have to suffer through it!!! more

They are using the inmate for Profiit lain and simple! 12/17/2010

This facility is basically housing our family members under substandard conditions...treating vistors like 3rd class citizens...while making a daily profit! they reap in thousands per inmate per day with the contract they have negotiated...and don't even have the decency to uphold a legal release appointed by the court by runnin their own search for delayed paper work that accumilated extra fees that they feel justified in continuing detaining our loved ones whike extorting money from us. close it down now! more

Needs more training 10/9/2010

Visists...sigh***That girl Regina..looking like predator..has the worst attitude & non professionalism type of attitude its sickening..She needs a lot more training..This is a place of business no? Not her front steps..Shes a ghetto queen..She needs to be taught the diff between work & her house..or apt..or what ever hole she has crawled out from..smh n discust..Whos staffing this place..These girls except for the elder lady that works in the pm(very nice lady) should be staffed in the back of the building with the inmates & people who actually know how to be professional should be put in there place..How are they the first to greet people coming into the building..A mess.. more

IT MAKES NO SENSE 5/25/2010

I WENT TO VISIT MY MAN IN THIS FACILITY AND WAS APPALLED AT THE PACE OF THE ADMINSTRATION FOR VISITATION! THEY WERE EXTREMELY SLOW AND LAXED. THEN I HAD TO BE INCONVENIECED BY PUTTING MY BELONGINGS IN A LOCKER THAT HAD NO LOCK. NO ONE BOTHERED TO TELL ME WHEN I CALLED THAT WOULD BE REQUIRED DURING THE VISIT. THE POLICY OF THIS FACILITY IS STRICT WHEN IT COMES TO CLOTHING AND UNDERSTANDIBLY SO, BUT IT BORDER LINES CENSURSHIP AND I REALLY HAD TO SOUND OUT A GUARD ORTWO FOR THEIR AUDACITY IN TELLING ME THAT MY SHIRT WAS TOO TIGHT. I AM A CURVY WOMAN AND HAVE A LOT OF CLEAVAGE...COULD I HELP IT THE GUARDS COULDN'T KEEP THE TENT DOWN? THANK GOD I HAD A JACKET! THE THING THAT PISSED ME OFF THE MOST WAS THAT IT WAS A VISIT BEHIND THIS EXTREMELY THICK GLASS YOU HAVE TO SIT ON A METAL STOOL AND TALK INTO A PHONE, THAT WHO KNOWS WHEN WAS LAST WASHED (BE SURE TO BRING PLENTY OF SANTIZER) AND THEY STILL INSIST YOU LEAVE YOU PROPERTY IN AN UNSECURE LOCKER AT YOUR OWN RISK! IF I WERE TO RATE THE QUALITY OF SERVICE AND PROFESSIONALISM AS FAR AS THE VISTING ROOM GOES BTWN 1 BEING THE WORST AND 10 BEING THE BEST...IT WOULD GET A 1 1/2.! Pros: AT LEAST I GET TO SEE MY MAN Cons: NOT ENOUGH TIME AND SO INCONVENIENT more

Visits 5/10/2010

Visits are M-th starting at 2:30 - 6:15. and saturdays 2:30 - 6:15 It is best to go early. dress code is in effect.. nothing revealing, short or form fitted. Saturdays are the only days you can physically touch the inmate. the other days are through glass... this goes for immigration inmates as well. the inmate must put your name on a vistor card. they have to request this. if they don't you will nt be able to visit them. the visits are for 30 minutes per inmate... only one person at a time. if you go with two they split the times... the only way an inmate is able to call you is t set up an acc with global intel. currently they are having some trouble so you have to call and leave your number for them to call you back. they do call you back. 877-650-4249..... customer service sucks..no on does answer the phones when you call the jail.. when you do finally get some one they do try to help.. so keep calling.. 201-395-5600.....once the detainned is out of the holding cell they are ok and pretty safe... the only thing they have to worry about is food.. they have a lot of activities to do.. when they are in the holding for a few days....thatis the worst.. they only get two hours of freedom.. to make calls and shwer... this is all the info i have..i will let you know anything else i find more

FACILITY INFORMATION FOR VISITORS 3/29/2010

INFORMACION EN ESPANOL: 347-819-6303\r \r THE QUICKEST ROUTE FROM NYC WAS TO GET ON THE E-TRAIN AND GET OFF AT THE LAST STOP, WORLD TRADE CENTER. AFTER CROSSING TO N.J. ON THE PATH-TRAIN, WHICH COSTS $1.75 EACH WAY, I GOT OFF AT EXCHANGE PLACE. I FOUND MY WAY TO THE #1 BUS TO NEWARK. THIS BUS COSTS $1.35 TO GET TO HACKENSACK AVENUE WHERE THE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY IS LOCATED. MAKE SURE TO TELL THE BUS DRIVER TO LET YOU KNOW WHEN YOU GET TO HACKENSACK AVENUE, ESPECIALLY IF IT'S YOUR FIRST TIME GOING THERE.\r \r WHEN I ARRIVED ON A SUNDAY, I WAS INFORMED BY THE OFFICER AT THE LOBBY RECEPTION DESK THAT THERE WERE NO VISITS ON SATURDAY OR SUNDAY FOR IMMIGRATION DETAINEES. REGULAR INMATES GET VISITS ON FRIDAY, SATURDAY, AND SUNDAY.\r \r THE VISIT FOR IMMIGRATION DETAINEES IS MONDAY THRU THURSDAY, REGISTRATION STARTS AT 8:OOAM FOR THE MORNING VISITS, AND 3:00PM REGISTRATION FOR THE AFTERNOON VISITS. I WAS TOLD THAT VISITS ARE JUST 30 MINUTES, AND IF TWO PEOPLE VISIT THEY HAVE TO SPLIT THE TIME, 15 MINUTES EACH. \r \r I DIDN'T GET TO VISIT BUT, I DID MANAGE TO LEAVE MONEY FOR THE PERSON I WENT TO SEE BY USING SOMETHING THAT LOOKS LIKE AN ATM MACHINE LOCATED IN THE LOBBY.\r REMEMBER, YOU DON'T HAVE TO VISIT AN INMATE TO LEAVE MONEY, THERES ANOTHER ONE OF THESE MACHINES IN THE VISITORS WAITING ROOM.\r \r THE VISITOR LOCKERS ARE IN THE VISITOR WAITING ROOM. BRING YOUR OWN LOCK BECAUSE YOU CAN'T TAKE YOUR CELL PHONE INTO THE VISIT. THE LOCKERS ARE LESS THAN A SQUARE FOOT IN SIZE, SO LEAVE LARGE ITEMS AT HOME...LIKE HANDBAGS. \r \r WHEN I WENT TO VISIT THE NEXT DAY, MONDAY, I WAS TOLD THAT I WAS NOT ON THE VISITING LIST, I COULD NOT VISIT THE PERSON I WENT TO SEE. \r \r TO VISIT AN INMATE AT HUDSON COUNTY CORRECTIONAL CENTER, YOU MUST WRITE A LETTER TO THE INMATE FIRST TO INSURE THAT THE INMATE PUTS YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS ON HIS OR HER VISIT CARD. THE RESIDENT SHOULD THEN INFORM THEIR FAMILY WHEN THEIR INFO HAS BEEN SUBMITTED TO THE VISITING AREA. I WOULD WAIT AT LEAST A WEEK BEFORE GOING TO VISIT JUST TO BE SURE THE VISIT CARD HAS BEEN PROCESSED.\r \r IF YOU WANT TO PRE-PAY FOR AN INMATE TO MAKE PHONE CALLS, CALL GLOBAL: 866-230-7761 OR 1-800-231-0193. I HAVE CALLED THIS JAIL ON MANY OCCASIONS,NEVER DID I GET SOMEONE TO ANSWER THE PHONE. ALSO THE INMATES CANNOT CALL OUT BECAUSE THE PHONE SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK,ONE CANNOT EVEN SET UP THE PREPAID CALLS FROM INMATES. I NEVER THOUGHT THIS COULD HAPPEN IN AMERICA........... Cons: NO ONE CARES ABOUT ANYONE more

Facility does what it does 8/27/2009

I was scared to death by reading these comments that are posted here, when my loved one became incarcerated here. After having spoken with many wonderful staff members at the facility, I realized that you receive what you put into it. I have called numerous times to ask questions, some of which, I had already asked, but in my emotional state I forgot what was said to me, and not only did someone ALWAYS answer the phones (Mon-Sat), the staff members were very professional, informative, and compassionate towards my needs to get the necessary information on my loved one. The facility appears clean, tidy and very well run. The staff members enforce the rules to keep their jobs secure, and by enforcing the rules, some of which I don't agree with, they are not only keeping the visitors safe from harm, but they are also protecting our loved ones from harm. The people who visit their loved ones need to calm down, and really pay attention to what is being said, and simply, FOLLOW the RULES! The facility and its staff members get a 100% A+++ from me. The Hudson County Correction Center should put into place a support system for the families of the inmates, and give an overview of what to expect during this very frightening experience. If I could, I would even run the program on a voluntary basis just to see how well it would work. The public defenders office, however, has another thing coming!! Pros: Friendly efficient Staff; Clean Facility Cons: No Weekend Visits, No support staff for families of inmates more

Not complaining 4/28/2009

What can i say. I really are not the type of person that complains. I went to visit my friend a few times, but one time i went and they didn't call me. I was about to go out and ask, but i know how they get. I decided to wait. like 5 minutes after they asked me nicely who i was going to visit. I gave them the number and the location. I didn't have to wait long. All the times i went there, they really haven't given me a problem. I just go in, and speak nicely, even when they don't greet you. What can we do about it. =/ more

Hudson County Jail 1/10/2009

This is a little insite from someone with a locked up loved one. It makes me sick to think there are some who want people like me to feel sorry for the guards working there because they are under staffed and never get a break and have such a hard time with working in the conditions they do. Let me tell you something. Yes the people in there are where they are because they did something they should not have. But that dont mean they should be treated badly and the loved ones that call or visit should be givin an attitude. Everyone that has ever called the record room will tell the same tale. THEY GET PAID TO ANSWER THE PHONE AND GIVE INFO. Not ignore the phone and give people who call the run around and then no info. It should not be a pulling teeth situation! Visits are just the same. Dont give me a hard time while Im trying to see someone. I come there it get in and out and dont need to be hassled because you cant find the inmate and or hes working/sleeping ect. You guards get paid VERY well to do your job. WE THE TAX PAYERS make sure you get paid well. If you dont have enough staff then get some and stop crying about it. I will not feel sorry for anyone that works at the jail because you choose that job and all you wanna do is complain about how hard it is. I do understand that some of the inmates make it hard but you were trained to deal with it! As for those VISITORS that start problems I must attack you too. You make it hard for all of us. They make sure that signs are posted what not to wear and bring with you. The times for visits and how to go about it. Maybe if those ungreatful visitors did what it took to get in and out we visitors wouldnt be givin such a hard time because there would be nothing to complain about. No one wants to be in this position but this is life and Our loved ones choose to have this life. If everyone just stopped and followed the rules we would all be better off! more

the truth hurts at times 12/13/2008

People need to understand they are understaffed and over populated ,when you inside your nice family members that you cry for and say they are suffering are up all day just hanging out in the day room area playing cards ,chess reading a book watching tv(jerry spinger or caliente) watching a movie---yes they do provide movies or at the windows attemping to speak to another male or female inmate or there in the gym playing a spet of out side playing soccer or basketball or doing a cardio work out or just take up the sun with there towel on the floor tanning .\r they same poor souls who have everything from extra clothing to so much food there lockers are over stuffed and can eat for day with out the facilty feeding them are the same people disrespecting the officers because there shirt came back not as clean as they wanted from the laundry room or upset because the officer asked them to go to medical since they (the inmate put his/her name on sick call) or upset because the out side commisary vendor only brang them 19 or there honey buns and they cant wait another week for it to come .\r ladies and gentalmen your family is mostly doing nothing more than having a nice relaxing time in there doing NOTHING at all all day till there time is up and they can go home and do some real work .\r let see they:\r sleep till what ever time they want \r eat when they want \r watch tv or a movie when ever they want \r are provided free medical (dentist ,rehad ect)\r are given visiting time and they can come down when they want .\r and people have the nerve to complain about the satff ? .people your family members are leachers off society .The staffis not there to serve you but to make sure the facilty is secure and not vandalized from the inmates in there and the kind souls who urinate on the floor in the bath rooms ,do graffitti in the bath rooms ,leave there garbage on the floor and the seats in the visiting area and who when they dont have the proper iD have the nerve to complain. Pros: We can talk to other male or female inmates from the windows free clothing and food Cons: cant go out when we feel like it . more

complain to the right people 7/31/2008

A jail is a jail, no matter what facility you go to is going to have issues, theres no excuse for being unprofessional though, but you also have to consider a lot of other factors. Instability in leadership and management will have ill effect on its staff, uniform and civilian. Any business knows that their employees are a direct reflection of their management, a good business listens to their employees and considers problems and possible solutions. We also have to understand that this is HUDSON COUNTY, and it does hold over 2000 inmates, and it is understaffed, and phone system compared to other facilities is ancient and way outdated. I've called several other jails and they have automated systems that transfer to the proper office instead of like HUDSON, where they give one number which is usually records and they cant tell me about visits or commissary issues, the system needs to be changed. Overall i' have dealt with the staff several times and not had too many serious problems considering the volume of inmates and movement they have going on. GOOD LUCK cause i would not want that job. Pros: i dont know Cons: phone system outdated more

HCCF Worst Correctional Facility! 7/14/2008

As if you could find a good jail where people are courtious, I understand they deal with criminals on a daily basis but it doesn' t mean their family members and loved ones need to treated as such. Sometimes it's out of our control and we cannot stop our loved ones from doing wrong, so why should we have to recieve nasty treatment from people who know how hard and sad it is to see these people all day? There are some employees that are kind and help you with information, but they are irresponsible with the phones, I work a job just like them, I'm not unemployed. I'm a professional and do what I get paid to do responsibly and these people just don't do what they're asked of. Today my brother attempted suicide in their court surveillance room and it took them so long to bust in the room to stop him and first of all how did he get a bag in the first place without them taking it away from him??? The entire courtroom sat there and watched the incident until we were asked to leave and it was devastating! If you ask me all of Hudson County is corrupt, starting with their cops I'm personally familiar with lots of them who are worse than those incarcarated. Pros: none, it's JAIL! Cons: EVERYTHING! more

worst place ever 6/20/2008

i have been to this jail plenty of times to bail out my loved one and for visitations. the people that work there are LAZY and NASTY and SLOW. they act as though its wrong to bail someone out or go to see them. for all the times i've been there they gave me a hard time but i was determined to get what i went there for and stood strong. they think they can intimidate people but the trick is to come back at them the same way. i always try the nice approach first but once they get nasty so will i. im not saying im a genious but when it comes to the jail i know how things are suppose to get done and who to talk to when you're not being helped. they like to treat everyone like criminals when the majority of them are corrupt themselves! Pros: getting in to visit is quick and they give u time to talk Cons: they never answer the phones more
