This neighborhood bar is a great place to sit back, relax, and enjoy a giant beer while chatting with the town historian. Hubers has been around for decades, first as a neighborhood grocery and now as a neighborhood bar. It still has the original penny candy counter up front to remind people how they started. Beer is cheap, be sure to get one in their giant glasses, two pints worth for a very decent price. This bar has darts, live bands occasionally, and several tvs usually tuned in to Illini sports. The crowd here on game days is fairly rabid, but they have been following the Illini for longer than most undergrads have been alive so it's understandable. The first time I visited I sat at the bar and had several glasses bought for me by one of the regulars who just wanted to chat about life, incredibly interesting guy who knew more town history than anyone I've met since. Unfortunately as a neighborhood bar they have to abide by noise restrictions, and close at 11 PM nightly. Think of it as a great weeknight hang out, or a good start to a weekend.
