Howell's Deli Cafe

Food is mediocre, typical deli luncheonette during the day....not terrible but not great. The Staff are very nice.....BUT, the owner is a rude pretentious woman, I would guess was never in the food business prior. Steve's Deli down the street is much better food and they stick to what they do well. I have to agree with other reviewers...they are trying to make a luncheonette/Deli into a full service dinner restaurant at night and it really doesn't work. Howells... Work on your food and your attitude. more

I first discovered Howell's several years ago when serving on jury duty at the Orange County Courthouse, less than half a mile away. It is a popular spot for breakfast and lunch with local office workers as well as the legal eagles who have offices near the courthouse. You'll have to find a parking spot on the street and feed the meter. Enter Howell's and you'll see a large deli case filled with all types of meats, cheeses, salads and special dishes. Walk past the case into the "cafe" and seat yourself at a clean table. This is a casual place and everyone is friendly and accommodating. The best part about Howells is the hand-cut french fries which are made especially for them. These fries are waffle cut and are like nothing else around. They accompany burgers and sandwiches or you can order them as a side. The sweet potato fries are also winners, here. Enjoy a daily selection of special sandwiches and hot entrees which are written on a wipe off board in the cafe. There's also a menu--but check out the specials first. Soft drinks and fruit smoothies are available which is a welcome treat on these scorching summer days. Don't forget to leave room for dessert--the Luv'in Spoonful cake is my favorite. more
