Editorial review from Citysearch 8/15/2012

Fantastic! I am not just another number here, the entire practice is friendly and welcoming. I love Dr. Woolf's sense of humor and his energy is very refreshing. I am moving away for school, but I will still be making appointments during my breaks so that I may remain a patient here. I highly recommend Dr. Howard Woolf! more

Disappointed 1/27/2011

My daughter's first visit, I found it a bit strange that the doctor never introduced himself to me before seeing my daughter. His humor was degrading, talking to my 12 year old as if she were 5. The staff was pleasant to me, except the woman handling the insurance. I left the office with a bill for $600. That was for the exam and 1 pair of glasses for a 12 yr old! I ended up taking her somewhere else to get her glasses. She got the same pair of glasses and another exam for the cost of $230. I will not be going back to Dr. Woolf's office. It was not worth my time or money! more

Great Practice 9/14/2010

I was referred to Dr. Howard Woolf about 14 years ago, The staff is very professional and helpful. Dr. Woolf tries to put his patients at ease with a little humor, but he is very through in his examination and knowledgeable in what he does. I highly recommend him and his staff. From what I have seen of Dr. Brian Woolf, the passion of providing excellent eye care has been passed along to the next generation. Actually,it is my understanding that Dr. Brian Woolf is the 3rd generation. I highly recommend them and have referred friends to them for eye exams. more

Best Doctor I've seen. 2/17/2010

I'm 28 and I've been seeing Dr. Woolf (Father) since I was 13. I now see Dr. Brian. Both are fantastic. I really feel like they try to identify whats important to me, and help me pick the best product for me. I've broken several pairs of glasses, but they've fixed them for FREE every time. They are a little more costly then the discount eye care places you see in Walmart or in the Mall, but your honestly getting something for that money. Your getting professionals that want you to be happy. Your not rushed through and tossed into a set of lenes. IF you don't like you glasses or lenes, they'll get you new ones. Pros: They care about whats important to you. Cons: SLIGHTLY more costly. more

They Helped Me Find Glasses 11/26/2009

I've been to a Lenscrafters where they just handed me a box and set me loose to find glasses on my own. I had no idea what I was doing. I picked a frame that I thought looked good, but once my lenses were in them (they're thick) the glasses looked terrible and I hated them. At Dr. Woolf's (I see the son Dr. Brian), he explained that I have a ""high"" prescription and that certain frames would look better than others with the lenses I need. He helped me find a great frame for my face and the lenses looked great too. He also showed me new lenses that are super thin, which I truly love. Dr. Brian and his staff helped me through every step of the process. And the cost wasn't really different at all from Lenscrafters, so for that reason there's no way that I would go anywhere else. I highly recommend Dr. Brian! Pros: Helpful staff, good explanations, spent lots of time with me Cons: I wish I'd found them sooner! more

Great Doctor! 7/27/2009

I've been seeing Dr. Brian now for the past four years, and he really does a wonderful job. He's very smart, very funny - and his staff has always treated me really well. A few times, they've managed to squeeze me in for an appointment when I knew that they were full. I recommend Dr. Brian Woolf highly! Pros: Very courteous office staff, smart doctor w/ good humor more

Excellent Eye Doctors 3/11/2009

Excellent! I've been taking my 13 year old daughter to Dr. Brian Woolf for several years now. Very friendly and courteous office staff. Dr. Brian has a good sense of humor and makes getting your eyes checked a good experience. Definitely recommend, you will NOT be disappointed. more

Won't go back. Only thing missing was the plaid suit and megaphone. 10/10/2008

I took my son for an eye exam recently & he was seen by the senior Dr. Woolf. The technicians were very nice but Dr. Woolf was more focused on how many pairs of glasses & boxes of contacts we wanted to buy. When I tried to ask him a few questions about the prescription & contacts he was setting up for my son, I was pooh-poohed & dismissed. Never had my questions answered. I then tried to ask the technician the same questions, but Dr. Woolf kept walking by and saying something about maximizing benefits and getting a rebate for a year supply... I was annoyed because I was also asking about costs up front and not getting a straight answer. (My son had also said during the course of the exam that the new lenses ""felt weird"" but was told he needed to get used to them, so I did not want to commit to a massive supply if he wasn't comfortable with the clarity) When it came time to check out, I decided to just pay the copays & necessary fees, take the sample lenses and a copy of the prescriptions for my son's contacts & glasses to be filled elsewhere. Dr Woolf came around the corner and huffed something about why would we do that?... I was a little put off, especially after he went to go give the technician who helped us a hard time about why she didn't sell us anything so we collected our receipts and scripts and left. Needless to say, my husband took our son to another doctor for a second opinion a few days later and guess what? The prescription was off! (We ordered his contacts on the new exam from the other doctor) On a different note, I was told by a neighbor that the lady doctor at this practice - I believe her name is Dr. Levy - is the best one to see, but she was not available for any of the times we could have for an appointment. I'm pretty sure I know when my family is being marked as a dollar sign and that was totally the case at this office. Save yourself some time, aggravation & money and go to an eye care practice that cares about quality, not quantity. more

Best Eye Doc! 5/9/2008

My family has been going to Dr. Howard for years and years - ever since his days in South Baltimore on Light Street!\r \r He is so friendly and kind. He has a great sense of humor too!\r \r Dr. Brian is just as friendly and kind, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! Pros: Everything! Cons: Can't think of any! more

Patient, friendly eye doctor 9/11/2007

I saw Dr. Levy and was very pleased with my experience. She was friendly, patient and professional. I'd gone in thinking that I might want colored contacts (prescription), and after trying on a few pairs she convinced me that they were going to look fake. I wound up buying the much cheaper, clear contacts... which proved to me that she really just cared about making me see well. Didn't feel pressured or anything - it was a nice, relaxed eye exam and I feel that she did a thorough job. Pros: Patient, friendly, didn't try to sell me lots of glasses or contacts more

Great Visit - See Dr. Brian 8/13/2007

Had a very good visit with Dr. Brian over the weekend. I have a difficult prescription, and he took extra time with me to explain what was wrong and also to help me find a solution. Went with glasses that had a special kind of lens - I can definitely see crystal clear, and my eyes don't get tired or strained at work. Pros: Smart, easy to talk to, listened to my concernes, gave a great exam Cons: No cons at all more

Excellent Eye Exam and Great Frame Selection! 8/13/2007

I recently moved to Baltimore and had to find a good eye doc. I actually went with the recommendations I found here at Citysearch and visited Dr. Woolf. Great experience - I see more clearly now with my new prescription, and I went with a totally different kind of lens that they recommended. I can now see at night without a problem. And they had a great selection of frames - I care deeply about my appearance, and it was important to me to find frames that were stylish. Pros: Easy to make appointment, great frame selection, great service Cons: None! more

Best Eye Doc in B'More 1/6/2007

I'm a welder/ metal artist and got some debris stuck in my eye last week after I lost control of my equipment. Dr. Brian stayed after his office hours to see me, and then he spent a lot of time picking out the pieces and getting me cleaned up. I know that if I would have gone to the ER I would have been there half the night, but I was actually in and out of his office in about an hour and a half. Plus, he also gave me a vision exam to make sure that nothing had penetrated my eye and affected my vision. He got me set up with prescription goggles so that I shouldn't have the same problem in the future... He's incredibly nice and really, really helpful. \r Pros: Helpful, Excellent Care, Very Clean, Accommodating Cons: none! more

Excellent eye care! 1/6/2007

I've had problems getting a good prescription for many years. I have a complicated bifocal lens and am always sitting in front of my computer at work. I went in for a routine eye exam -- one of my friends recommended Dr. Woolf -- and he explained why my prescription is so difficult to find and to fit properly with glasses. Then, he showed me what my options were. The lenses were a bit more expensive than I'm used to, but it turned out that my insurance covered it about 90%. I only paid $18 and a week later had my glasses, and I can honestly say that this is the best I've ever seen. I think it's because Dr. Woolf took a lot of extra time with me -- my exam was about 45 minutes, and after I took a lot of different tests he spent about 20 minutes just talking to me and asking me about what I'm looking at during the day and basically how I'm using my eyes. \r \r So here's what I'd say in a nutshell: Dr. Woolf is a really, really great doctor. If you're someone with a problem prescription like me, or if you've see other doctors but haven't had any luck in the past, try Dr. Woolf out. Pros: Service, Smart Doctor, No office wait, Good frame choices Cons: Office staff could be a little friendlier more

Very good eye doctor. 12/17/2006

My visit with Dr. Brian Woolf was really great. He was very professional and walked me through all of the different tests. When I asked questions, he gave me honest, straight answers without ""talking down"" to me. I've work glasses for many years, but he offered me lots of alternatives. At the end of the visit, he had me work with a specialist who showed me the right size and shape of frams to go with my facial type. For the first time, I actually look good in my glasses. I'd recommend Dr. Woolf very highly. Pros: friendly, very smart, easy to talk to more
