Adopt a Pet and be a part of the SPCA family 7/2/2010

Growing up with dogs, I have wanted a dog for a very long time, and for my birthday last year, my wish came true! As we headed to the SPCA, I had a general idea of what kind of dog I wanted - a medium-sized, female, adult dog, that didn't shed (too much). We arrived and signed in at the front desk, filling out a form, so we could visit one-on-one with the dogs. After walking around the entire facility (dogs are broken up into small/medium, and the larger dogs are in a separate area), there was only one dog I wanted to spend time with. Unbelievably, she was everything we wanted in a dog, AND she had already had a lot of obedience training - bonus! We weren't quite sure if we wanted to make a life-changing commitment that night, so we came back and visited her the next 2 nights before officially adopting her. A year later, and I can’t even imagine life without her! The SPCA staff was very helpful and made our adoption process go very smoothly and gave us information about her medical history, the first (required within a certain amount of time) vet visit, all the classes available (at a discounted rate, since we adopted there). We attended the very educational (and free) new dog owners class later that week. And even though our girl wasn't quite a puppy, we attended the suggested Saturday afternoon puppy socialization class ($10) a couple of times, where the dogs get to play, and learn some training at the same time. All of the classes are also available to any dog owner, whether they adopted there or not. Overall, I was very impressed with the modern facilities, the knowledgeable staff, the number and types of classes offered, and the fact that we were able to provide a “forever home” for our sweet girl. Pros: nice staff, organized, cute animals more

Great place to find you forever pet 5/26/2010

I adopted a lovely puppy from the Houston SPCA and had a fabulous experience. The process was friendly and inviting. You can really tell the staff what to help you find the pet that best fits your household. The layout of the facility is great because you can take your time and meet the dogs at your speed. I loved the information they had posted on each animal – why they are here, are they ready to go home, and any other issues. I have gone to the Houston Humane Society as well and did not enjoy the experience and will not go back. The SPCAs customer service and open attitude for you to meet the animals is wonderful. Pros: Easy adoptions, location, staff Cons: Can get very busy in the small dog area more

Best place to adopt a pet 5/5/2009

Highly recommended the SPCA in Hou. I have adopted 2 Chis from Hou SPCA and I have nothing but praising for their services. I went to one place on Westheimer, Hou to see a Pom after all my phone calls were not answered. I was told ,the Pom was a lost and found , so the earliest I could adopt the Pom was the next five days.I came back 2 days later with a friend and I as told the Pom was already been adopted. I called another place on West Little York for a Chi, my appointment was cancelled later in the evening and was re-scheduled for 9 am the next morning. I showed up at 8:30 am to be told the Chi was adotped by one of a staff member. At SPCA in Hou,I don't have to beg to have these little animals. I don't have to allow some stranger to come to my house in a gated community in Katy area,to check the condition of my house. If you do not want to waste your time and if you want to be treated with decency and compassion, do not go to these little grooming places for adption a pet, GO TO THE SPCA HOU. Pros: Professional, friendly and clean enviroment more

I don't believe that the staff here are that knowledgeable, nor friendly. The SPCA has always came off to me as ""stuck up"" and ""better than thou"". I do praise them for allowing 18 year olds to adopt animals. more
