Curry was pretty good - but the rice was under cooked and crunchy more

Surprisingly nice 3/3/2012

Went for a friend's birthday, she had to please a vegan, a vergitarian and meat eaters. We were all very pleased. My husband playfully joked that after this she'd owe him a steak. After a few bites of his beef sizzler he happily told her she didn't need to take him out for a steak. The beef was tender and required no knife even for his dentures. I regret not getting the tofu but I will be there again soon and will have trust in their entrees. It was very nice and they were even willing to accomodate a large party. Much better then the last vegitarian friendly place we were dragged to. more

An absolute gem 7/22/2011

This is my family's favorite place to eat. Not only is the food absolutely delicious and authentic, the service and ambience are beyond measure. We are always provided excellent and prompt service and our dishes are consistently delicious (we get the spicy potatoes, noodles and dumplings--4,9 and 28 on the menu--and a sweet tea). Toward the end of the meal, the older gentleman (the chef?) always comes out from the kitchen to offer my kids a complimentary rice pudding or their choice of candy from a basket. We always leave a generous tip because the prices are so reasonable--we almost feel guilty! Even when we feel like hunkering down at home, we often take out from HOT. Love it. Kids do, too. more

I love this place! 5/17/2010

This restaurant quickly became a favorite place to eat for my group of friends. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is calm and pleasant. There are usually not too many people there. It's family owned, and they are all very friendly. We occasionally get into conversations with some of them when we eat there. Pros: charming place, nice people, good food, good atmosphere Cons: casual, but that's a good thing too more

I love the House of Tibet 3/6/2010

I'd seen House of Tibet for years and had always heard good things about them, but had never been myself. I'm happy to say; however, that I finally did go am a now a huge fan and loyal customer. The food was great, it's served family style, so we ended up ordering a bunch and got to sample some of the best food I've had in a long time. From the spicy potatoes, to the Momo's, to the beef curry, and desert after, everything was great.; Service was prompt, attentive, and has been consistently so since we started eating there. I read some of the other reviews, and can honestly say that I've never had even remotely the same experiences. I would, and have recommended the House of Tibet to most all my friends and family here in Salt Lake. Pros: Spicy potatoes, dumplings, tofu stir fry, service, etc Cons: None that I can think of more

Great food! Family owned and operated... nice people! 9/24/2008

I love potatoes, so this place is great. Imagine a kind of Chinese food crossed with an eastern european potato dish (not all dishes are potatoes... I just get those often). The chef is the owner and his daughters are the servers. Very quaint. Very friendly. Very caring... one day I took my girlfriend when she had lost her voice and the wife of the owner brought out a tibetan remedy concoction that actually worked!! Great place. They need more business... refer refer refer!!! Pros: The cute staff. The Sho Go Kha-Tsa and the dumplings. Cons: Sometimes the daughters don't seem to know the proper serving methodology more

Very disappointing buffet 5/14/2008

I took a friend to the lunch-time buffet at the House of Tibet so that she could sample several types of Tibetan food, with which she was unfamiliar. The restaurant was nearly empty (4 - 6 customers while we were there), but even so there was almost no choice of food at the buffet table - mainly spiced potatoes and dumplings. No one seemed to be checking on the dishes or actively replenishing them. The restaurant is very poor value when compared with several excellent Indian lunch-time buffets in the metropolitan area and, while I am keen to support our exiled Tibetan community, I shall not recommend it to my friends. Incidentally, my American Express card was not accepted, and anyone who thinks 1300 South is in or near Salt Lake's ""theater district"" does not know the city! (despite ""Restaurant info"" in left-hand sidebar). more

The Chinese can keep the House of Tibet 3/4/2008

This is a kind of restaurant I would bring an ex girl friend to. The staff could care less whether or not you are actually served. The food that is served I would not feed to my dog. We tried an array of dishes from the curries to the momo plates and found them flatly disappointing. The curry in particular was something akin to a Nepalese army ration, more similar to an old stew than a flavorful curry one would expect. Stay away unless you are a big fan of waiting and let down. Pros: interesting art and wall decorations Cons: disinterested service unsavory food more

Lunch Buffet is AMAZING!!! 2/29/2008

I've never been here anytime except the lunch hour. And I always get the buffet. It's simply AMAZING ! Spicy potatoes that are really spicy, GREAT dumplings, both vegie and meat, Love the rice, but the real draw is the sweet tea !!! Get more than one carfe and make sure to take the lid off when it arrives. It's as hot as liquid sun and feels just as good when you drink it. I can't get enough of it. Parking isn't a problem, and it's usually quiet enough that service is fantastic. The seating area is small, but not too crowded and best of all (if you're taking kids at least) is the display at the counter featuring all sorts of hand crafted items. Most proceeds from these items goes to help free Tibet. All in all a FANTASTIC place to go for lunch !!! Pros: Parking, Great Food, Steller Service Cons: Their hours are weird and difficult to manage unless you live downtown. more

Tse-Momo & Veg Friendly! 3/2/2006

This is one of my favorite SLC restaurants! I often find myself craving thier vegetarian dumplings (Tse Momo's). Their lunch buffet is great, and Dinner is always satisfying. We always have leftovers and don't spend a lot to eat thier. Authentic and cute. It also very spicy. I love it! Pros: Location, Vegan/Vegetarian more

excellent food 9/24/2004

This is a wonderful resturant. The food is unique, very tastey, and just overall fabulous. I go there quite often for the lunch buffet and for dinner. The food is cheap and they are vegan friendly. Pros: great food, very inexpensive more

Good Eats 3/10/2004

Nice place for a quick buffet style lunch. The buffet table wasn't a steam table, but a table with pans and lids... making it a little difficult for getting food. But the food was really good. more
