This is a treasure that I recently discovered in my own backyard. A friend invited me and my kids to feed the ducks at the lake located on the grounds and so one Saturday we packed up some old bread and snacks for a morning of adventure.
Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden is one of five gardens that compose the Honolulu garden system. It is 400 acres and is home to endangered and rare plants. We walked several trails and visited the aforementioned lake where we fed what seemed like hundreds of ducks. I commented to my friend that it didn't even feel like there could be houses beyond the treeline, even though there are. It is that peaceful and tranquil.
We found out at the visitor's center that camping is allowed so we'll try to do that sometime, along with fishing on the weekend.
