Homestead Hospital has been a part of the south Miami-Dade community since 1940, when local physician James Archer Smith opened it as a 10-bed hospital east of Krome Avenue. Today, Homestead Hospital is a 142-bed, community hospital. Our new $135 million facility opened May 6, 2007, at its new location just east of Florida's Turnpike. The new hospital was built to replace the aging facility that served residents for so many years. Taking care of patients is an exceptional medical staff of nearly 300 whose specialties include internal and family medicine, dermatology, pediatrics, gynecology, cardiology, orthopedics, gastroenterology, radiology, surgery, neurology, oncology, pediatrics, podiatry, pulmonology and urology. The hospital has the latest technology and equipment. Natural light, soothing colors, plenty of open spaces and all private rooms help to create a warm and healing environment. Our hospital includes medical-surgical units, an intensive care unit with eICU LifeGuard, surgical services, and sophisticated outpatient diagnostic testing that includes digital mammography, MRI and CT scanners. The 24-hour Emergency Center has 44 private treatment rooms, including a trauma room and a Children's Emergency Room. Our Birthing Suites welcomes more than 1,400 babies a year. A Medical Arts Building is located inside the main hospital and houses physicians' offices..
