We ate there three times. First time the service was OK, and the pizza excellent with perfect crust. Next two times, the pizza was so-so, and the service again was somewhat poor both times. more

No management 5/5/2011

We live in the area and have been a regular (weekly) customer for 3 years. Most employees recognize us because we go so much. Tonight we waited 45 min for 2 hamburgers. We asked about our food and got a condescending response in return. We complained and decided to get it to go. Then we asked for a comp and to speak to the manager. The manager hid in the back and had the waitress tell us we could only have 1/2 off. This is not the way to treat a regular customer. They have decent food because it's inexpensive. The service while dining in has steadily declined over the past 2 years. We are done with this restaurant. more

Best local pizza! 11/21/2009

I have only tried the pizza and garlic twists at Home Grown but it is my favorite local pizza place. I don't like eating there since it was loud and overrun with kids the couple of times I've been there so we usually just order and pick it up. The staff is very nice though and our pizza is always very hot and delicious! The greek pizza is our favorite. Pros: great pizza Cons: atmosphere more

Family Friendly and Delicious 4/21/2009

I have worked in the restuarant business for over 7 years now. Although Home Grown Pizza was rather busy on nights like Friday, I enjoyed it very much. The food was outstanding, the service was admirable, and my friends and I truly enjoyed it. The only bad thing i saw about Home Grown Pizza were the rude people that were complaining constantly about little things. They made their servers run around like they weren't human beings in reality. I felt horrible for how these servers were being treated, so I was extremely nice and respectful to them, especially since working at Home Grown Pizza is probably how they make their living. Overall though, i truly enjoyed my experience at Home Grown Pizza, and will defintely return for another visit. Pros: Home made blue cheese and ranch, wings, and pizza Cons: rude customers more

Good food but slow service 4/10/2008

We have been going to Homegrown since we moved here 2 1/2 yrs ago. Its always good food but the service is slow. I dont know if they are just always short servers or what. Expect a long dinner because from the time you sit down, wait for someone to get your drink order (can take 15 minutes or so) then order your phone, wait for your food (have waited 30-45 minutes for a sandwich) its an all night deal! Food is decent though so I'll give it 3 stars. If we get more restaurants in the area this one will not last.. more

Good Food, Very Poorly Managed Restaurant 1/31/2008

Food is always good, but poorly managed (Coming from someone who has restaurant experience). Pros: Good Pizza Cons: Horrible staff performance/attitude, poorly managed, long waits even on weeknights more

The Calzones are the best I've ever had - anywhere ... and I've been everywhere, man! 9/28/2007

A locally owned, very kid friendly, independent pizza restaurant, offering an interesting assortment of beers. Using locally grown ingredients the owners, who are transplants to the south, bring both Chicago and Philadelphia tastes to the area. Home Grown Pizza has become a favorite place to go for lunch and dinner in the Holly Springs area. Pros: The owners wife is a Cubs fan. Cons: The owner is a Phillies fan. more

Great food and Friendly staff 9/25/2007

overall, Homegrown Pizza has great food, and a friendly wait staff. They offer half price appetizers on Monday through Friday until 6. sadly, i have seen people come into the resturant wanting the same discount after 6, when they have clearly entered 30 minutes or more later. This upsets me because people should understand that they are late, so they dont get the discount. i think it's only fair. I've lived in the area for 12 or more years now, and i'm glad that such a resturant has opened up to the community. Homegrown Pizza does a lot fo the community, including donating items and meals to certain fundraisers and to the schools in the area. The pizza is unbeatable, and the staff is very friendly and open to conversating with their customers. I enjoy having a waitress talk to me instead of just getting my order. It shows that they care about their job, and enjoy working there. That says a lot about a place's character. The fact that the wait staff enjoys working there, and they take time out of their busy work schedule to talk to you, shows that they care about the customers. The blue cheese and ranch dressings are home-made (i'm pretty sure) and are completely worth trying! I've enjoyed pretty much every time i've come to homegrown and i would recommend it to anyone who asked. I've even dragged my friends from places as far as wilmington, and southern pines just so they can try the food...and of course, they love it just as much as i do! actually, my friend in wilmington wants the owner to open one there! So, as i've said, Homegrown pizza is a great experience for anyone who is willing to give it a chance. I recommend it! Pros: blue cheese, ranch, cheese fries, pizza Cons: other customers who treat their waitress rudly more

Family friendly at its best! 9/25/2007

Our family loves Homegrown Pizza in Holly Springs. It is consistently good... food and service. We have 3 young children and Homegrown staff will always meet our needs. The specialty mushroom pizza is the best pie I've ever had!!! We always take out-of-town guests to eat there. It's convenient, friendly and delicious! more

Great food, great service!!! 9/25/2007

I truly love Homegrown Pizza! The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, modifying the menu to meet my unique (and yes, picky) taste. From the delicious steak and cheese sandwiches, the mouth-watering burgers and specialty pizzas to the avocado sandwiches, antipasta and mixed green salads, the menu is diverse while remaining reasonably priced. The specials of the day are a ""must-try"", ranging from baked ziti to chicken salad, all of which are made fresh. There really is something for everyone! It's a smoke-free, family friendly environment with warm and welcoming staff that are always ready to serve you! Pros: Great food, great service more

sports haven for dads and families 9/25/2007

Sometimes dining with my family and watching the game can be a challenge. We don't need cigarette smoke. Homegrown is perfect, the brews cold and assorted with frequent specials that are just what I need. The televisions are situated so I can look at the screen and the family can think I am looking at them...kidding. It is easy to balance the game and the family. Food is outstanding. Calzones are primo. Pizzas great. Kids can find something they like. Wife can find something she likes and some other gals to visit with...it is a real neighborhood/community kind of place. The staff there rocks...they make sure good tunes are playing, the drinks and food flowing and they are great to visit with. They are great with the kids. Pros: beer Cons: THEY HAVE A BIG SCREEN NOW more

shangri-la 9/25/2007

Our family of five has celebrated dining at Homegrown Pizza since the first day it opened. We are frequent diners and have never had a negative experience. The service is magical and timely. The dynamic staff spreads good karma by being kind, considerate and eager to please and not just because we treat them with respect and understanding. Pros: blue cheese dressing, great beer selection, great pizzas Cons: occassional jerks who come to eat there more

Best Pizza in the Area! 9/25/2007

As an occasional visitor to the area, it's nice to know there's a place where we can get good pizza, calzones and sandwiches at a reasonable price. Home Grown Pizza is family oriented and very friendly! Pros: family friendly and affordable more

Best Restaurant in Town! 9/25/2007

My husband, friends, children and I love this restaurant. The food is superb and the staff is very friendly. Homegrown Pizza offers more than just pizza; their selection is diverse, affordable and children-friendly. I am a salad nut and their salad dressings are to DIE FOR. Homegrown has catered an event for me and again, the food and service was outstanding. Everyone loved it. And I also appreciate the fact that this locally owned business supports schools and scouting organiations. Pros: Delicious food, great service, good for families Cons: None that i can think of! more

Look for a better restaurant in Holly Springs (Hopefully Soon) 9/20/2007

I would not recommend this as a place to eat . The service is so so and overall dining experience is not much above your experience at a local bar. Given its the only local place in Holly Springs, there are much better places that you can enjoy with your dining dollars within a few miles. I have received burnt food and menu is limited. Depending on the food item you never get the same level of quality or taste. Some of the service is not very friendly and you will need to constantly ask for things you normally receive at other restaurants. Expect long wait times since they don't have any system to deal with large crowds. The floors appears to be dirty and is in need of a paint overhaul. The atmosphere is loud and congested due to open room configuration. Pros: One of few local restauarants Cons: food quality, limited menu, service more

Food adequate, service and customer support nonexistent 9/19/2007

The service is good one time and worse the next time depending on the timing and waitstaff you get. Most of the staff has change over a lot recently. Take out orders you get put on hold and wait for long periods. Received many orders in the past that were incorrect or delivered wrong. The food is at best average, the pricing is cheap only when they honor their half price appetizers. Since they have little to no competition in the area, they will not fare so well when more restaurants compete. They don't seem to care about any inputs or complaints customers bring to their attention. They are not interested in changing and making the dinning experience in Holly Springs better. Recommend travel a little further and go to a restaurant that values there customers business. Otherwise, be like someone in Las Vegas and roll the dice since that will be what you will get. Pros: Cheap prices when honoring specials Cons: inconsistent food and service more
