We escape as much as possible to a RV resort nearby and was attracted to the Smokehouse by its unique name, lots of cars in the parking lot, and convenience to where we camp. First visit was for breakfast which was very good with tasty home made milk sausage gravy that I spooned over my biscuit which are huge and another story all together and our second visit was to try the Bar-B-Que. The que was great, very lean with no chunks of fat and a smokey original taste. They offer two sauces, one the well known Eastern North Carolina style with vinegar and pepper flakes and the other more of the central and Western NC type with more of a tomato sauce base. Both were great. I switched back and forth between them squirting both on portions of my ample pile of que on the plate. The hush puppies however sealed the deal for me. Moist flavorful inside with a cruchy exterior crust that holds up well if you want to dip them into the sauces for an extra kick. Next trip will be to try their seafood dishes since it saves the drive to either Sneads Ferry or the crowds at Surf City. Way to go Smokehouse....you guys are friendly, helpful, and the food is great. I think with an expanded ingredient offering on the salad bar, there could not be a better dining experience at twice the price.
Pros: Unique restaurant for a very small community
Cons: Salad bar too simple and doesn't have very may ingredients
