A wonderful casual spot for great oysters, ambiance and service. The prices are good and the views are beautiful. Good location for people watching and rides on the ferry. Pros...

Unless you like waiting in line like cattle and being ""helped"" by snotty waiters who rush and don't look like they want to be there then skip this place during Happy Hour. Po...

Discriminated because I was a paying customer. 8/27/2005

It was not clear on where the line started if you wanted to wait for a table either inside or outside. After 10 mins of confusion, we finally got instructions on where the line started. We then waited 20 mins in line patiently as the line grew longer. After half an hour of waiting and being the second in line to almost getting seated, I noticed a man getting the attention of supposingly one of the ""Owner"" and was seated right away with his 3 other guests at an outside table. This man did not wait in line and had no consideration to those who were waiting. I brought this up to the Owner's attention and he replied that the man was a share holder who has priority over those who were waiting. Funny how WE, THE PAYING CUSTOMERS ARE DISCRIMINATED, WHEN WE ARE THE ONES KEEPING THEM IN BUSINESS. more

Fresh oysters are what it's all about! 6/12/2005

The featured oysters are harvested daily from the cold waters of Tomales Bay or flown in directly from Washington, British Columbia and New Brunswick. The scent of the ocean is on every plate and the oysters are adeptly shucked by knowledgable staff. Prices are competitive and the twice weekly Happy Hour on Mondays and Thursdays make Hog Island Sweetwater Oysters a deal @ $1 each. Great for groups of 10-20 who want to seat outside, slurp oysters and enjoy the great view. Pros: good food, friendly service Cons: noisy, no reservations more

The city's best grilled cheese sandwich 3/11/2005

They could double the seating space here and I think it would still be a packed house. Definitely popular for oysters, but, the grilled cheese is the best in town. Highly recommended as a casual lunch spot in the Ferry Building. If you can snag a table outside, even better. more

Cold Rainy Day location 10/30/2004

A great casual spot to go on a cold day and enjoy a beer and some creative oysters. We tried all 3 of the baked oysters - which were fantastic. The grill cheese is great to share, as it is extremely rich. The clam chowder is more of a broth based, without much fanfare - several other places in SF offer a much better alternative. The service is spotty and be aware that an hour before closing, the doors open and the other vendors begin bringing in outside furniture - as well as a strong cool bay breeze. Pros: Bay Bridge View more

Aw shucks! 4/13/2004

I love oysters and I don't mind paying good money for them. But I do mind paying very good money, $37 for 2 dozen of the smallest oysters I've every been served. I also wasn't too thrilled when my neighbor ordered from the happy hour menu of $1 an oyster which began at 4pm. It was 3:55pm and I had order at 3:52pm. I really like the ambiance at the Ferry Plaza Bldg but I felt like I was getting kind of ripped off - we're not all tourists, you know. Pros: environment more

Oyster heaven 3/6/2004

We could've eaten 2 dozen raw oysters... each! Freshly shucked oysters are plumb, briny, and oh-so-good. Grab a beer to wash down your meal and watch the ferries cruise in and out of the pier. If 2 dozen aren't enough for you, ask the friendly staff about purchasing a bushel straight from the purveyor. Pros: food/service, view, atmosphere more
