Worst

Hog Heaven is a perfectly decent bbq joint, but its 'que is nothing beyond ordinary. They do a decent job on the pork and the sides, but it isn't the type of place that could sur...

Nasty Pork 12/7/2007

I would not recommend Hog Heaven. Their pork is very salty in my opinion. I was not pleased with the smell of the food either, it will turn you away from eating it. Maybe it was a bad day for the cook, who knows? more

Best Bar-B-Q around 9/6/2007

Hog Heaven Bar-B-Q is awesome.. I've read other reviews and almost all of them say the same thing, ""I LOVE HOG HEAVEN BAR-B-Q"".. That's because it's true. I drive about 80 miles round trip for the pork bbq, add some potato salad and green beans, wonderful.. I've heard the banana pudding is great, but I've always been too full to try it.. I've tried other bar-b-q places since moving here and there is no comparison in the taste of the pork.. Mark, is always making sure that your food is fine and you have everything you need.. It's a great atmosphere with southern charm and lots of smiling faces.. Hog Heaven Bar-B-Q is worth the drive.. Pros: excellant food.. great service more

Best BBQ in Durham 6/27/2007

If you want warm friendly people and the most tender, well seasoned beef around, I would recommend you go to Hog Heaven. I had a great experience with my family. Definitely will be back again. Pros: Nice Warm Enbironment, You'll fall in love the Ribs! more

Great Customer Service 4/24/2007

I am a youth minister at a local Church. Recently our church held a family night fundraiser at Hog Heaven BBQ in order to help pay for the youth's mission camp. Hog Heaven donated 10% of the total nights proceeds to our youth group. From start to finish they were great to work with. The manager was extremely nice and every one there seemed to be focused on helping the customer. The Church loved the fundraiser and it really helped our youth. I would highly recommend Hog Heaven for a great, family friendly environment filled with nice people who are there to help you have a wonderful experience at their restaurant. more

By far the Best BBQ around 3/10/2007

Before I left my review, I'll admit I read all of the ones posted previously. I agree with the over whelming majority by saying Hog Heaven does have the best bbq around. The waitress told me one night the bbq is chopped by hand as needed. It doesn't sit in pans all day. I usually eat there 3-4 times a week, mostly at lunch but with the family on the weekends. The daily specials are just out of this world. You would think your mom is in the kitchen cooking. Homemade banana pudding that is better than you would get from your church at homecoming. I think they also have the best seafood in Durham. My wife loves the flounder while I must say the shrimp dinner makes me think I'm at Wilmington. Most of all, the bbq is the best I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, everything in this restaurant is so good, it's like going home to mom's house but I've eaten bbq from everybody in the triangle and nobody does it better than Hog Heaven. Best BBQ in the area! 2/28/2007

I've been coming to Hog Heaven for several years and i absolutely love it!! I usually order the bbq sandwich and I have to use a fork to eat the bbq before I can pick-up the sandwich. I recently tried the fish(flounder) and shrimp plate. It was very fresh tasting and the shrimp was fabulous!! The staff is always friendly and the service is always fast. More than just good barbecue 1/29/2007

My wife and I tried Hog Heaven Barbecue at I-85 and Guess Road in Durham and were wowed. She got the BBQ with potato salad and green beans. I got the BBQ and fried chicken breast with baby limas and fried okra. Both plates were $6.75 each, and the tea was awesome. Mark the manager told me it's the same as Bojangles' tea -- S & D. Best Bar-B-Que 1/19/2007

The food at Hog Heaven is great; especially the BBQ, slaw and hushpuppies. During the Christmas holidays, I took some BBQ my family, which live ""down East"". Their comment was it was the best they have ever eaten. The service is quick and the staff is extremely friendly. They always make you feel welcome at Hog Heaven and it is a place you will want to visit again and again. You are given good portions and you certainly get your money worth. Hog Heaven catered a meeting for me during the holidays; the food arrived when promised and was delicious. Everyone at the meeting commented on how great everything was and how much they enjoyed the meal. I highly recommend this restaurant for catering, eating in or take out. Outstanding catering with attention to customer satisfaction 1/18/2007

I just wanted to write a short note to thank you for the wonderful catering for my son?s eighth grade end of the year celebration. With the hottest day of the year and a group of excited eighth graders to feed and entertain, the event was nothing short of a miracle. The food was outstanding and the service impeccable. I really appreciate your attention to detail and the focus you and your staff show to the customer. It made our event more enjoyable to know the details of food and service were handled by such a professional pair of gentlemen. I can?t write without mentioning the outstanding food as well. The pig was cooked to perfection and the sides complimented the meal addressing both the adults? and the teenagers? tastes. Pros: Food, customer service, catering, and value more

Unbelieveable Friendly 3/28/2006

I ate at Hog Heaven on Guess Road Thursday night 3/2/06 the food was great. The BBQ was the best I have ever eaten. The homemade bananna pudding was excellent. There vegetable soup was delicious. The waitress was unbelievable friendly. This was my first visit and will be back. I had heard about this BBQ place and the good things and it held up to its repetition. Homey Atmosphere 5/9/2005

I love Hog Heaven. The food is good, not just the barbecue, but dumplings, chicken and everything else. The price is great and the tea is very good. My husband and I enjoy going and seeing lots of people we know coming in. We get to converse with others easily and enjoy the food also. The sauce they have for the barbecue is great but I enjoy not having all the fat and grease in the barbecue as most other places have. Great place to go and carry children also. Good Bar-B-Q 5/13/2004

I think the bar-b-q is very good. However, it isn't chopped as finely as most southern bar-b-q; nor is it quite as twangy as most. This might not meet the approval of a ""true southern bar-b-q connoisseur"". I liked the big pieces & the milder flavor, though. The side orders I got were very good. My order was take-out so I can not comment on the service nor the atmosphere. Since it was a take-out order I couldn't ask for more hushpuppies. I would have preferred more. I want to comment on the location since the previous person did (otherwise, I would not see the need). I disagree about it being in a bad location. I live less than 3 miles from this restaurant and I honestly don't feel like it is a bad neighbirhood. Durham's Guess Road is neither better nor worse than most. Jus Great 1/12/2004

The Food at Hog Heaven is great. I've had BBQ each time and loved it. I am a big guy and felt like they gave generous portions for a very reasonable price. I also disagree with the notion that guess road is a bad area of town. It's absurd to suggest that just because it is one of the older areas of town it's unsafe. The atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired with the flourescent lights and white walls. However, the staff is wonderful, providing good service and friendly smiles.
