I don't know how this gem survived all these years...there's nothing around it but Hi-rise condos, a hotel parking garage and some over-priced eateries (it's right behind The Cheesecake Factory). We spent a wonderful hour touring and being entertained by a very knowledgeable guide--he really looked old enough to have known the people who lived in the house. Stranahan House is quaint and quirky...an enchanting was to spend a rainy afternoon. Pros: Very unique, excellent restoration Cons: Parking! more

  • Stranahan House stands on its original location at the New River in downtown Fort Lauderdale. It has been the site most closely associated with the founding of the city and its economic and social development. Frank Stranahan originally selected the sitebecause it was where he operated his barge ferry across the river as part of the new road from Lantana to what is now North Miami.
