“Very clean, very inexpensive, close to everything 6/3/2010

We have stayed here several times and noted that it is a perfect place for trying out all the sights in this beautiful area. The rooms are very spacious and clean and the price is quite affordable. If you dont like the restaurant (several people did not in our group), there are many alternatives within walking distance. Highly recommended if you are looking for a clean, inexpensive, well-run place to stay. more

Excellent value 5/27/2010

We stayed five nights, and found the room to be spacious with a mini kitchen. The double beds were comfortable. Everything in the room, including the bath, was very clean. The grounds were well maintained, and the pool was nice, although the water temperature was a bit cool for our Floridian tastes! Would not hesitate to stay there again. more

Best-kept bargain secret and value of the century. 5/4/2010

While dealing with terminal illness in my family, I have had six extended stays over the past year at the Hillside Inn, both solo and accompanied by family and friends. Family-owned and operated by nice people, it's a value on a limited budget in comfort and amenities, with a woodsy ambience than you can't get at more-expensive places, and it's convenient to shopping and tourist destinations. I've recommended it to my friends, who have given me similar feedback. I have found the staff and owners to be unfailingly courteous and helpful. more

Peaceful and romantic 4/22/2010

It was beautiful, quiet, and peaceful...all in all a great escape from the real world. The cottage was very comfortable and had all the necessities (a small but well equipped kitchenette, gas grill, cd's and dvd's, reading material, outdoor shower, jacuzzi tub for 2, access to a hot tub near the owners home, and a beautiful deck for watching the stars). There is also a small "stargazer's room" perched on a hillside a short hike (including a crossing on a suspension bridge) from the cottage. We watched the sunset there one night, but didn't make it over there at night to use the telescope. We visited during the dry season so didn't get to see/hear the waterfall and creek. While the cottage shares a property with the owner's home, it is very private. The hosts are there if you need them for anything, but are very respectful of your space if you want to be alone. There are many wineries within a 20 minute drive of the cottage. We did a day trip along the Pacific Coast Highway and visited the Armstrong Redwood Park (very scenic). We loved the area and hope to visit again. more

“Great Value - an excellent find 4/19/2010

While our experience was identical to a prior review with regard to use of the coupons (arriving on a Thursday and them not having the coupon room) - the "upgrade" to a King bed non-smoking was only a few dollars more and the room was well worth it. The price ended up being about half the price of a name-branded motel just down the street. Room was large and clean, included a desk, coffee, micro and small frig and free hi-speed with great connection. We didn't use the pool but it looked clean and inviting. Location is excellent as it is directly across the street from lots of shopping including Costco and Trader Joe's. Not a "destination" location though it would be a good base for the wine country -- and, as we used it, a great enroute stop. more

The Hillside works for us 4/12/2010

Over the last 7 or 8 years we have stayed always at the Hillside Inn. Our experiences have been stellar! My elderly Aunt and Uncle, who lived in Santa Rosa a few years ago also had a very good experience after half of their house burned down and their Insurance Agent arranged for them to stay an extended amount of time while their home was being rebuilt. My only frustration is that I cannot contact the Hillside via a web site and must make a long distance telephone call to secure our reservations. Our next stay will be in early March 2008. more

very nice 'n quaint 3/9/2010

The Hillside Inn restaurant is an old standby in this area. They're tucked away across from the Flamingo and can be accessed from westbound hiway 12 just before Farmer's Lane. They offer all the traditional breakfast dishes, but one item that stands out is the buckwheat pancakes. They're not on the menu (I know not why) so you have to request them. They're like an insider's secret and are really tasty. The waitstaff is prompt and friendly. Prices are reasonable. -Aren A. more
