The Hillis Funeral Home began in 1946 when Loren E. "Doc." Hillis purchased the Raymond Seat Funeral Home at 932 Maple Avenue, to provide funeral services and emergency and invalid ambulance service to the Zanesville and surrounding community. In 1953 the funeral home was moved to its current location to meet the growing needs of the families he served, when Doc purchased the turn of the century Young Mansion, owners of the Roseville Pottery Company at 935 Forest Avenue. Jim Hillis joined his father as a licensed funeral director followed by Dave Hillis as a licensed funeral director and embalmer. Upon the death of Loren Hillis in 1973, the Hillis sons assumed the operations of the funeral home. In 2002, prior to attending Mortuary College, Tim Combs joined the firm and as been associated with the Hillis Funeral Home ever since. In 2013 Tim Combs and Paul Nestor, both licensed funeral directors and embalmers, assumed ownership and operation of the funeral home, now the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home.
