BEST TEA HOUSE IN THE STATE! 2/7/2011

Hello readers, I am a frequent patron of this establishment having been here 4 times since Thanksgiving and another reservation later in this month. The menu here is as such that each offered selection is either 3 or 4 courses. Firstly, a Tea Cart is brought to the table where a delightful gentleman, retired Doctor, offers you a selection of over 100 teas for your smelling choice and to make your selection from. He explains tea styles by colors, tea leaf, and tea liquor and related to oxidization levels of tea. The teas are in six major tea styles: Green Tea, White Tea, Oolong Tea, Red Tea, Black Tea and Herbal. These are handed to you to look at, smell the aromas’ and decide. This is called service. Your selection is brought to the table; the teas are poured for you and continually refreshed ... (more)to return piping hot. This again is service. When menu selection is made and your order is taken you are asked if there are food allergies, likes and dislikes in your selection, this is also called service! When your menu selection is delivered, the sandwiches are placed one by one by silver service on to your plate and you are also told what each sandwich consists of, again service! When it is time for scones, straight from the oven too, a cart with 5 different jams and preserves is brought to your table for you to select to have with the scones, again service. No other Tea House in California offers the level of service or the large menu that the High Tea Cottage does. Lots and lots of service and an abundance of extremely tasty and delightful cuisine are offered. The atmosphere is friendly and professional. Some say this place is expensive, but as another diner pointed out to me last time I was there, if you go to any restaurant and order a 3 course meal with bottomless premium drinks it cost a lot more than $34 and wew always take food home. I have seen though rude patrons wander in with no reservation, cell phone in hand chattering away with no consideration for others dining, manners are especially required when having Tea! more

BEST TEA HOUSE IN ALL OF THE STATE 10/8/2009

Firstly let me say I have been to tea all over the USA. I am a flight attendant and where ever I layover I ""tea"". was surprised to find a Tea House in my own neighborhood and even more surprise to find it is exceptional, I felt like Simon finding Susan! A true gem. I attended a private party here last year and it was amazing so I hosted a birthday party here for my Mother last month. I have to say Jenn exceed all my expectations, it was absolutely wonderful. From the presentation of the private room, the china, personalized menus, wonderful tasty food and exceptional hot teas to the sign out front welcoming my guests, the High Tea Cottage put together one of the most wonderful afternoons any of us have ever experienced at a commercial establishment. Highly recommend. a full 10 out of 10. We will be back for another Tea party soon! Pros: Absolutely the best food, service, ambiance and prices. Cons: Parking, street or public lot at the corner more

THE VERY BEST HIGH TEA EXPERIENCE IN LA 5/19/2009

I was taken to Tea this past weekend as a Mothers Day outing by by daughters. It was stupendous! Cherie went out of her way to accommodate my diet requests and also allowed us to see and smell the aromas of the teas prior to ordering, this was very enjoyable, helpful and enlightening. The Royal High Tea was spectacular with the pretty flowers and overall presentation. The Lady Hamilton china is glorious, to be served on china so delicate was a treat all to itself We had a wonderful time visiting, we were not rushed as each course was served with impeccable timing and service. Many other Tea establishments serve all at once, not here - our sandwiches were made to order so were as fresh as fresh could be, our scones hot and presented on a preserve cart with 4 different jams for us to choose from, the ginger cake just melted in my mouth and the desserts scrumptious and cold. This is an absolute experience to enjoy, it is much better than the 4 Seasons and also the Ritz Carlton. We had an absolutely relaxing and indulgent afternoon of pure pleasure. Pros: THIS IS THE REAL TRUE EXPERIENCE Cons: You need to drive to the Valley - Woodland Hills 91364 more

Best High Tea in Los Angeles 4/16/2009

Hidden away in Woodland Hills, this is worth the drive to the Valley. This is the most amazing place to have High Tea,it's the real deal from the quaint building to the beautiful inside, you will not be disappointed with this Tea house. Absolutely amazing china not found in a commercial establishment, fabulous menu, the food is so fresh, the scones are served hot with a preserve cart to select your jams from. Over 75 teas to select your bottomless teapot from and they even bring the loose tea to the table so you can see and smell the aromas before ordering. Fresh flowers on the tables, presented on the plates, crystal, linens etc. The service is great, friendly and knowable not to mention enjoyable conversation with the owners she has dined with Royalty and it shows!. This should be how High Tea is always served. Great service, celebrate your birthday her, they actually give you a gift!! That's class. Only drawback we found is the parking, keep your meter feed or use the laundry parking across the street. Right off the 101 at Topanga in Woodland Hills. If you are looking for the real deal you won't be disappointed, it's fabulous! 5 stars all round! Make reservation though, it's quite popular and they don't rush you expect to spend 2 to 3 hours being pampered! There is a liquor store on the corner and we always take a bottle of bubbly. Very unique and special. Pros: Absolutely the most wonderful High Tea in LA more

UNPLEASANT!! extremely RUDE owner!! 11/24/2008

the owner was so amazingly rude to us!! i have never encountered such a response anywhere!! it was so over the top & shocking that it was laughable. we drove over 30 miles & an hour in traffic to visit this tea house. we had reservations and due to heavy traffic on the 101 on a friday, we arrived 15 mins past our reservation time. there were no other customers in the restaurant, it was empty. the man who sat us was very friendly & chatty and made us feel very welcomed. but when the woman came out, she made it clear as day that we had committed some sin because it was now 4:30 & the chef leaves at 6:00. hmm, sounded like plenty of time to us, we looked at each other perplexed by her insult & rudeness. all in all she spoke very very harshly to us, chastised us like we were fools, and SLAMMED the door on us when we left!!! we understand she may have had concerns about the time, but why not speak kindly to us & explain this? who treats customers like this? please do not reward these individuals with your business. give your business to someone who truly values you - you'll be happier as well. more

BEST TEA HOUSE IN LA 11/11/2008

This is a sophisticated, elegant, friendly Tea house where all they do is High Tea and the likes. If you are looking for a special place, this is it!\r I have been several times as both patron and hostess for my friend's bridal shower. It is without a doubt the very best Tea House I have ever been to, we have visited most south of Oregon.\r \r From the minute you enter the front door the owners personally make you feel welcome it is a pleasure to have you visit! There is aroma of freshly baked scones and be surprised at the surroundings, an oasis away from the stresses of everyday living. Tables are covered in crisp cloths adorned with beautiful English bone china, crystal, fresh flowers and napkins. The ambiance is elegant yet warm, friendly.\r Over 55 loose leaf premium teas and we have always been offered a smell before selecting our choices, on one occasion we were given 4 teas to enjoy with our Afternoon Tea at no extra charge.\r \r The food is outstanding, fresh flowers decorate the plates, everything is made to order so all is as fresh as can be, the tea sandwiches are petite and dainty. We love the cranberry chicken salad, my husband always asks for extra curried egg sandwiches which is never a problem. The scones are always hot and fresh from the oven, the best we have ever tasted, they offer a preserve cart with a selection of the days jams and curds. And the desserts are magnificent, very European. They offer alternate besides the traditional teas, the crepes and quiche are very good, best quiche, full of vegetables and the salads are organic with fresh fruits, they offer an Australian Tea with meat pie and a pavlova, so good!\r \r Service is excellent they even give a beautiful birthday gift when celebrating a birthday. This is a first class, you are treated like Royalty and made to feel like an old friend. Highly recommend this over any other in Los Angeles, you will not be disappointed. Parking they put quarters in the meter for you, now that's class!! more
