Barista REFUSEDto serve me 1/24/2009

The Hideout on Congress is a real gem in downtown. Unfortunately, the last time I was there the crazy barista said I was the girl who had walked out on a tab some past Saturday and he refused to serve me! He was very angry and never once did he consider he might have mistaken me for someone else. Instead he argued, ""remembered"" details, tried to kick me out, and would not budge no matter how I protested and he couldn't even produce evidence that he was accusing the right person. It was vey BIZARRE and upsetting because I do go there every week for the open mic events. That server needs to be fired before he goes off on someone else because he was either on medication or just plain crazy. Still, the business shouldn't suffer because of one haywire employee. The Hideout offers excellent teas, coffees, beer, and such and usually I get great service. Just watch out for the young, dark curly haired, thin, light skinned, narrow faced barista before he accuses you of stealing, too. Pros: excellent coffees, teas, sandwiches, open mic events, atmosphere with local art Cons: one crazy barista more

Everything made with care! 1/10/2007

The hideout has a few very welcoming baristas who make amazing drinks. They steam fresh milk everytime I buy a drink and the espresso is always very aromatic and well-timed. If you order a cold milk/espresso beverage they often shake it in a shaker before pouring it in your cup to make sure all of the ingredients are well mixed and very cold. This place is very inviting and comfortable and has a large menu of interesting options. Visit it frequently and try everything! Pros: quality beverages, nice setting, interesting local art, nice baristas Cons: Parking more

The Maestro Rules! 9/24/2006

The Hideout on Friday and Saturday nights hosts improv comedy. These guys are really funny and really know how to do improv. After going to one show you will be hooked. Seeing them perform in the small theater really gives you an intimate experience and almost puts you right in the action. If you are looking to get a lot of laughs in, go to the hideout and grab a bucket of beer. There are 3 shows nightly on Friday and Saturday that run at 8pm, 10pm and 11:30pm. Shows are $7 to $10 (pay what you can). Pros: Great comedy without the great price. The cafe has everything from lattes to Tecates. Cons: Downtown parking (what else is new?) more

very versatile 6/19/2006

This is one of my favorite places to hangout with my friends. It is laidback and great for spending the hours. All my experiences with beverages there have been enjoyable. The Hideout always seems to feature an interesting drink special worth trying. The Italian Soda, cafe au Lait and Hibiscus Mint tea are all exceptionally note worthy. They offer a free improv workshop on Tuesday's that is tons of fun for everyone and if the people who lead it are anything like they are in class then the shows on the weekend are worth going to. Pros: Ambience, affordability, location Cons: lax waiters more

Great ambience 2/16/2006

I am not a big coffee drinker but their prices are lot more reasonable than Starbucks. If you come on the weekends, they have entertainment (improv shows) that are pretty interesting. Pros: ambience more

Cool place to hang out... 9/20/2002

Ready for something other than sterile, corporate coffee? This is the place! Great espresso and an excellent variety of coffee drinks. On a hot day, try the Mango Madness. more
