Over the past few years my husband and I have really enjoyed the inventive dishes at Hidden City, particularly weekend brunch. My last 3 visits have been extremely disappointing though. Recently we ordered the potato pancakes w/salmon, which sounded like a nice, savory alternative to their regular pancakes. When served, we were dumbstruck! These were much smaller than a typical pancacke, which was fine in itself, but served w/2 small slices of lox, a sprinkling of green onion, and dollop of sour cream. The salmon was more of a garnish than a compliment to the potato pancakes, and though certainly edible, felt like we were served an appetizer, which for $12.50, was an absolute rip-off. Another dish I had recently was the chili, which was a watered-down bean soup more than a thick, hearty dish. We've always been more than satisfied w/the carnitas and eggs, polenta scrapple, or benedict, so I'm not sure if I'm just making bad choices. But how hard is it to screw up chili? Stick with the fore-mentioned standards. It's lousy to have reasonable expectations of a good meal, and to end up feeling cheated. It may be a while until I return to Hidden City, if at all. I'm reluctant to recommend this place to anyone I know.
Pros: good neighborhood
Cons: inconsistent dishes and service
