Good food, bad service 2/17/2008

I found the food to be very good. The ingredients were fresh and top of the line products. Unfortunately the rest of my dinning experience was no so good. Because the restaurant is so small, My party of four could not wait inside for a table. When we did get a table we were crammed into a booth with very little room and I kept getting bumped by people passing by. The service was poor to say the least and our bus person gave the impression she rather be somewhere else. The people behind us in line had finished their meal before we received ours.\r \r Go for the food by don?t expect much from the service. Pros: Niman Ranch meats Cons: Seating, Service more

too bad they don't do dinner! 2/2/2007

California cuisine in a brick-walled vintage building. All-organic ingredients go into creative breakfasts and a changing lunch menu that stretches old standbys: portobello mushroom lasagna, apple and smoked chicken salad, basil-spiked mashed potatoes. All sandwiches are served on homemade focaccia, and meal-sized salads and a selection of vegetarian entrees are always on the menu.\r more

They can do better! 12/3/2006

Over the past few years my husband and I have really enjoyed the inventive dishes at Hidden City, particularly weekend brunch. My last 3 visits have been extremely disappointing though. Recently we ordered the potato pancakes w/salmon, which sounded like a nice, savory alternative to their regular pancakes. When served, we were dumbstruck! These were much smaller than a typical pancacke, which was fine in itself, but served w/2 small slices of lox, a sprinkling of green onion, and dollop of sour cream. The salmon was more of a garnish than a compliment to the potato pancakes, and though certainly edible, felt like we were served an appetizer, which for $12.50, was an absolute rip-off. Another dish I had recently was the chili, which was a watered-down bean soup more than a thick, hearty dish. We've always been more than satisfied w/the carnitas and eggs, polenta scrapple, or benedict, so I'm not sure if I'm just making bad choices. But how hard is it to screw up chili? Stick with the fore-mentioned standards. It's lousy to have reasonable expectations of a good meal, and to end up feeling cheated. It may be a while until I return to Hidden City, if at all. I'm reluctant to recommend this place to anyone I know. Pros: good neighborhood Cons: inconsistent dishes and service more

What a gem. 11/21/2006

Who knew! Hidden City is tucked away in Pt. Richmond. It's surrounded by shops and restaurants in a quant little town center. Try the Nieman Ranch burger along with a beer/wine of your choice. You'll almost always find the owner on premises! Pros: good food, good service, beer, wine more

PANCAKES TO FLIP FOR 11/21/2006

The fresh cranberry and oatmeal pancakes served on a recent Sunday with real maple syrup were the best pancakes I've ever tried. \r \r \r more
