Like the rest of the downtown Thomasville block it’s placed on, Hicks Clothing Company stays firmly planted in the staid South Georgia plantation culture that pervades much of this community.
The recent resurgence of “preppy fashion” has surely been a boon for sales of light poplin and seersucker suits, bow ties and refined deck shoes. But then again, these are always big sellers in Thomasville.
I know Hicks well because that’s where we rented the tuxes for my wedding. The proprietor and his staff were meticulous in getting the right measurements for me and my attendants, even respectfully helping one of my larger-statured friends make several rounds of adjustments to his tux.
And they were good about reminding me that one of my slacker buddies hadn’t mailed in his measurements (not naming names). Anyway, there was a crunch and the folks at Hicks stayed after business hours the day of the rehearsal to get him straightened out.
