Hickory Hills

This may have been the biggest mistake I have ever made. The internet never works and when I say never.. I mean NEVER! The longest you may stay online is 4 minutes straight. \r \r There is absolutley no Verizon coverage.. I have talked with my neighbors and they are all experiencing the same problem. \r \r The cable is a joke! Most of the channels are fuzzy and their is no guide. They will not allow you to get any other cable service such as Comcast or Dish. It seems like this should be illegal. \r \r The gym is even a bigger joke! There is no heat, therefore it is 19* in there during the winter. They don't care for the sidewalk, which is on a steep slope, down to the gym. A huge accident waiting to happen. There is never any cleaning products inside to clean off the machine, a health hazard. I guess they haven't heard of MRSA. I have called and asked about this and they always say they are out and it is on its way, this has been at least a month. How hard is it to run down to Target and pick up a bottle?!?! No bathroom or water fountain either, just odd to me. \r \r Basically I just made the mistake of moving in here before reading all of the reviews. Apartment rating has only a 42% overall rating! If you want a worn out bare carpet, and then have to pay for so called cleaning costs when you move out, this place is for you! Many hidden costs-- constantly broken washer and dryer, poor maintence, rent increase every year, non-working radon pumps, incompetent managers. Just a totally horrible place. I rent an apartment in Hickory Hills. Everything you read on these internet apartment sites about the terrible cable service for Hickory Hills is true. For instance, the cable went out last Thursday, was out for 24 hours and as of this Tuesday morning only about 3 channels were watchable. This is a problem that has existed for years and has never been resolved. In the era of digital and HDTV this is not acceptable. Also, laundry facilities are very poor. For each apartment building which contains 12 units there are two washers and two dryers. When occupancy is full accessing the laundry facilities is a big challenge. Unfortunately, because of the high use, the machines rarely functioning properly. ISpeed (cable) and Hickory Hills do not seem to want to resolve these issues. With respect to the cable they can't, its a perpetual problem (service by iSpeed is a jerry-rigged system where they basically pirate DirectTV with satellites, and pipe it in to the apartments with a very poor, always requires ""tuning"", cable system. You can get clear lower channels but higher channels go from bad to worse). There are other issues as well, be prepared to drive your garbage around in your car because you will have to drive it to a central dumpster. And lastly don't be duped by the advertised exercise room, its tiny! The lone treadmill is now out of order, been like that for weeks and there are no controls for the temperature or a restroom facility and water leaks in from the outside making the floor wet (mold). We rent a townhouse in the Hickory Hills plan. It really is a decently spacious place with an automatic garage. Friendly office, great maintenance staff, AWESOME location right off McKnight and Perry Highway. Don't have kids but is in the North Allegheny school district which is one of the best in the country. Plumbing and appliances are a little on the cheap side, but not bad. All in all a great place. Which brings me to the cable and internet.. \r \r yikes... seriously, this could turn in to an expletive ridden rant, but I digress. There is only service by iSpeed which is some mom and pop cable and internet service where they basically steal DirectTV with satelites, and pipe it in to the homes with shoddily run cable. The HBO looks like you're either wasted or watching it through a fish tank. The internet is worse than the cheapest DSL package available which is around 18 bucks or so, but they charge you $60!! Unless you also purchase their other SCAM telephone service which brings it down to a mere nut cracking $50. Rip. Off. Seriously, it's horrific. I am not being dramatic. iSpeed should be reported.\r \r If cable, land line phone, and internet service don't really matter to you, by all means move here, this place is wonderful. But honestly, that's why were are moving as soon as we can and why I gave it at least a 1.5 point deduction.
